Can't watch youtube at work, but is the first one the ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLachlan? That one gets to me too. Those puppies are just so sad looking. :(

whenever that commercial comes on, i remind my dog how good she has it. this usually results in a licking of my face.

we've been looking at a lot of sites and some of them say they will ship the pup to you. i don't know, i would almost rather go and check it out before i put the money down. but that requires a plane ticket and time off work.

i'm thinking it's almost worth it to just have it boxed up and shipped to me.

    input? questions? suggestions?

If you buy a dog you really need to see where it's been living and if it's from a breeding farm then see the mother. Ordering a dog online sounds like an excuse not to see its original home...

Definitely go for the shelter. I had a great dog from the shelter, but due to some unfortunate events we had to return her to the shelter about a year later. Most heartwrenching thing I've ever had to do.

I only read your first post, not the rest of the thread. I apologize if I duplicate what some may have said. I've known a couple people who have done it. Both ended up with pups that were sick the first few weeks they had them. Be it from illnesses the pup was never vaccinated for or diseases common in puppy mills. A lot of on-line puppy purchases come from mills. Just be careful. You really should be able to see the element in which the puppy is in - clean home, good mom.

I did note the 2nd post -a shelter. There are lots of great dogs out there, just waiting for a good home.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

Pets have personalities so it seems to me, if you want to make sure that you and your pet have compatible personalities, it'd be a good idea to go and meet it before you adopt it into your home. :)

(So, an online (from a distance) purchase wouldn't be such a good idea I think.)

Everybody should post their local or favorite place to adopt a pet.

It could make a difference for a few pets in need of a home. :)

Depends on where it was. Hawaii? YES! Utah? NO!!!

Suit yourself, I always wanted to "experience" a polygamist cult, at least for a weekend :)

As for the original topic: I vote you buy a puppy from your local shelter.

from DogWorks Inc. Sporting Dog Rescue & Placement.

i went out to a local pet store where they were showing the dogs up for adoption and this pup was full of energy and just calling my name.
