California Is Now On Fire

  • So, so sad.

I'm nowhere near the line of danger, but my parents are up in Corona, so I hope everything is okay with their home.

Wildfires are definitely one of the few bad things about Southern California...

Please watch yourselves, those who live in Southern Cali, to be cautious of carbon monoxide poisoning. I experienced a case this last summer when northern Cali was up in flames...

I am beginning to think gas masks might be a great holiday stocking stuffer...peace and prayers to you and your families...

the fires are heading west into yorba linda and anaheim hills

aren't you in rancho cucamonga? is it windy out there? my dad tried to take the 15 this morning and when he got to the 210/15 interchange he turned around the wind was so bad
  • how fast do trees grow in Cali? jesus, there are huge fires there all the time.

Yeah, I am. It's not all that windy where I am right now, but it was last night and this morning. I love the wind, but I hope it doesn't pick back up again, just because it's so dangerous when the weather is this hot/dry.

Luckily, I'm at the southern part of Cucamonga (very close to Ontario), so fire has not ever come close to me.

fire is a natural part of our eco system; some trees here require fire to reproduce...

these are called digger pines. you can tell when a fire has swept through an area by their presence because they are uniform in height and size...

some trees take 300 years...lots of times i have noticed that wildland fires benefit the wine-grape industry because it saves the vintners money to clear their land...at least this is what i see in northern cali...

Hope everyone is safe. :) I grew up in San Diego and yes, there were always fires, but nothing like in the last 5 years! It's just been crazy the last few years. I can't believe there is much more to burn. :(

And ever since the housing market went bust, there has been the possibility that someone with a box of matches is trying to get out of an upside down home loan.
  • my sister flew down this weekend to attend a wedding. she called last night and said she could see the flames from her hotel! apparently the smoke is pretty bad, she sounded soo raspy on the phone. stay safe sis, and all you other jammers!!

The air is gross, it's like living in a giant ashtray. I feel so badly for everyone who lost their home - those poor people in the mobile home park in Sylmar, it's like almost all the homes there are gone.
