    I googled it:

Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.

Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."

staal cleared for light practices. man, this thing is moving at a snail's pace.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Rangers defenseman Marc Staal has been cleared for light physical activity, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com Thursday.

The news, first reported by the New York Post, is considered a small step in what has been a lengthy and uncertain road to recovery for the 24-year-old, who is still experiencing the effects of a concussion suffered in February.

    More From ESPNNewYork.com

Rangers. Islanders. Devils. If you want hockey information, ESPNNewYork.com has you covered. Blog

Following an appointment Tuesday with specialist Dr. Robert Cantu, Staal was given the green light to resume physical activity, such as light workouts on the stationary bike.

Staal, who sustained the injury on a crushing hit from his brother Eric, has yet to play a game or even practice with the Rangers this season.

The alternate captain has abstained from any sort of exercise for the past four weeks in hopes that lingering symptoms would subside, an additional source confirmed.

And while the latest development is a positive sign, it is believed Staal still has a long way to go before returning to the ice.

Staal missed two games following the hit, which took place Feb. 22 against the Carolina Hurricanes -- a game in which he also suffered a knee injury. He missed three more games the following month, although the nature of his injury was not disclosed until training camp opened in September.

Staal said then that he was still experiencing exertion-related headaches after workouts.

Although the loss of Staal has been devastating -- and given the pace of recovery, it remains unclear whether he will return this season -- the Rangers have fared well enough without him, and are on a seven-game winning streak, the team's longest since October 2009.

Nice, we should get together and watch a road game sometime. Of course I've been saying that in this thread forever.

i was never a guy to watch in a bar setting.. i'm not against meeting up with this crew obviously but me and my friends enjoy getting together at someone's crib as opposed to a bar

i think it would be better at a game ..especially with all the new standing setions ...just get tickets anywhere and go stand anywhere

Shouldn't have much trouble with us. I know our last 10 is like 7-1-2 or something, but I watched a few of those games and we were awful, even the wins.
I just want to catch the Leaves so I can give it back to the buggers I'm surrounded by after their good start...
