7 hours,,, nervous anticipation sets in

    4pm pacing begins
  • from the newsday blog:

    Betts in for Game 3

C Blair Betts skated in the optional practice in Westchester, said afterward that he was ready to go, and coach Tom Renney said he expected to deplay the same lineup for Game 3. Ryan Hollweg and Brad Isbister were the last two forwards off the ice, indicating that they'll be scratched again, although Renney said he would make a final decision after warmups.

Henrik Lundqvist, Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, Michal Rozsival and several other vets didn't skate.

The Rangers will stay in Manhattan tonight and have another optional skate tomorrow morning
at the Garden. it will be the first time they will have held such a session at MSG all year. "It might be a good time for a change like that," he said.

  • I can't wait for tonight!! I will be there...Section 344 Row H...the 2 seats at the top of the stairs

As for scratching Hollweg and Isbister...I don't know. Hollweg needs to play to allow the Rangers a more physical game. Isbister has been getting a lot of chances at the net, so I don't know why he's not playing...he could get lucky and get a clutch goal in for Coach. I would sit Hossa, he's been hurting the past couple of games, give him another days rest.

I f-ing love it! What a great game! Total domination. Nylander with a hat trick, Callahan with 2! Jagr with 4 assists! And King Henry with a shutout!

Too much to mention. How about Avery baiting Kovalchuk into getting tossed? Awesome!

Can't wait to do it all again in 24 hours!!!

The first goal, that was THE LOUDEST I have ever heard that building!!! THE LOUDEST!!! People went nuts for Callahan too when he scored his two goals

    HONESTLY...I started 2 of the 3 Avery chants!! :D

  • amazing game, some of the postgame comments:

    Tom Renney:

on the fans and the atmosphere:

"It's the best. It sounds corny but we want so badly to do well here for these fans for the way they've treated us when we haven't been particularly good. They've hung in there for the most part and that's not an easy thing to do when you're so passionate about your team and winning. There's a heckuva tradition. It's an "Original Six" team that understands what a winning culture looks like. We want to pretty much to come back to that and keep it sort of responsible for moving this organization forward.

"We're not looking past tommorow, but certainly it's pretty gratifying to play in front of people that care that much about there team. I got other thoughts about that are too philosophical to share but it's really important to the city.

on the quick start and using Nylander and Jagr to open the game:

"We've started them in the two games in Atlanta as well. This is playoff hockey and where the big fish swim. I think it's an important acknowledgment to the rest of the team that I have this kind of faith in our top line and in the guys that apply their trade their. Obviously the players understand that but it's important that they understand that and the entire coaching staff is behind what they do.

"There were things that we thought we might be able to exploit. As the game goes on and you're starting to work from a deficit, it's tough. We know that. We've been there. I think the big thing is that we understand is that they're a well-coached team. They're going to come out and play hard tommorow and that's all that we need to know. We can't sell these guys short at all because it might not have happened in months but it has happened when teams have come back and we don't want that to happen to us. It's so much about us right now. I have to allude to the fact that we've been doing this for the last six or seven weeks.

    Callahan:

"It's a great experience. Just being able to play in this building and score two goals is something I'll never forget. I had the family in the stands. It was a special night for me.

    on his two goals:

GOAL 1 - "The first one was a 2-on-1 with Shanny. The defenseman overplayed him a little bit and respected him obviously and tried to bring the puck to the middle and get a shot through and made a pretty good shot on net there.

GOAL 2 - "I was just going to the net and Mara had it at the point. He got a shot through. I wasn't sure if it was going wide or not so I threw a stick on it and got a tip in there.

    NYLANDER:

"The first goal I got the puck wide and I had a kind of a break on the D man (defenseman) and I just tried to go to the net. I shot it and it went in. It was a great play too.

The second goal was kind of a broken play and Hossa made a good shot on net. I just went to the net and tried to get it on the net and it went in.

The third one he (Jagr) made a great play to Rosey, almost like he had his back to the play and he took off two guys right away and then Rosey passed. (It was) a great play back to me on the far post and I got a lucky bounce and it went in.

    about the hat trick:

    "It is always nice to score goals but the bottom line is that we got this win. We are here to win the hockey game and we did that. We have to rest and get back tommorow. They are going to be hungry. They are going to come out with a lot of speed and energy. We have to perform well again.;

    Jagr:

"We were skating. We were moving the puck and skating. That is why we scored the goals in the first period. We were dominating in the offensive zone and that was the difference. All five guys were skating and they just had a tough time picking it up.

"We had a great start. That was the bottom line. We scored the first goal and kept going. We had a lead after the first period and I thought that was enough."

    on NYLANDER:

He is a great player. There is no question about it. He proved it again.

    HENRIK LUNDQVIST:

"It started with the first shift and it kept going. We went out and scored in the first shift and obviously that was tough on them. The crowd was just amazing. I think we got a lot of energy from them. Even though we had a big lead pretty early we kept it simple. We talked about how we have to play smart.

"It feels good. I can't lie. It's always nice as a goalie to get a shutout. The first two periods felt good. they had a couple of chances and a couple of shots but I felt confident the way the team played in front of me. I just had to stay focused.

    ATLANTA THRASHERS:

    Keith Tkachuk:

"I keep repeating that word - compete and that's all we got to do. We can't risk a lot, don't take penalties. That's what they do in the third period - embarrass you. We deserved everything we got tonight.

    KARI LEHTONEN:

"I think we got outplayed in every position and that's the truth. We didn't show up and that's just the way it is right now.

"Of course I don't feel like the best goalie in the world right now. But I have to learn and tommorow it's another day and I need to learn from this and put this behind me and focus what's ahead."

"I felt good and of course it wasn't the best start, 2-on-1 with Nylander there. He made a pretty good shot and of course that's not what you want when you're down 2-0 (in the series). You really want to come hard and make the statement and we were not able to do that.

    ANDY SUTTON:

"It's a total team effort. We got to show up and play a lot harder than that. When it comes down to being down and playing through things, you try to build momentum any way you can. I think it's important that everybody plays the right way and you have to go with smart things and easy things, and that includes finishing your checks and taking a hit. That's not for me to decide whether or not guys showed up or not. We all need to look in the mirror individually and think about what we can do starting with tommorow night to battle back in this series.

    BOB HARTLEY:

"We had talked over the last two days about the important of having a good start because we know and rightfully so that the New York Rangers fans would come out and show their support to the Rangers. We knew that this would be a very a loud rink and we needed the good start and we had a poor read right on the first shift and suddenly bang, it's 1-0. There's no excuse for this at this level. But right there we could feel that suddenly the entire bench froze. We were not there. We had plenty of time but it gave them lots of energy, lots of life and on our side it seemed like it just killed us.
