What is the attraction to myspace or facebook?

  • I have a my space page that I haven't touched in well over a year.

for me it's too much to keep up with. For one thing I'm always too lazy to upload photos.
  • The value of MySpace to bands for networking and marketing purposes is priceless.

Plus, I like keeping in touch with people from my hometown.

Life can get busy and you can lose track of your friends that move around a lot...It's just a good easy way to stay in touch.

I'm not necessarily slamming anybody who has a myspace or facebook page.

But I am curious as to why people do have them. Any of you who have either, can you shed some light on this for me? Just a forewarning, I will be combative.:)

But I honestly don't get it.

    I think it's the pictures. :)

There's no way I'd let my teenage son join it though... :p

Better make sure your new employer doesnt google you and see your site and find something wrong with it and not hire you.

I don't understand the obsession with MySpace and only recently even heard of Facebook.

There are these 3 doctors where I work, though, who obviously want to maintain very professional public images but all have MySpace accounts for their personal lives. Two of them have private profiles, but they post on the public profile of the third. They have no idea (not until I recently told one of them anyway) that half the office staff are reading their posts - which say things like "You're always getting wasted and leaving your pants at my house" - and making assumptions that they're sleeping together and spreading rumors about them throughout the office. I hope their patients aren't reading this too.

It's a bloody lot cheaper way to stay in touch with my international friends than to pick up the phone. If it's just the one person, from the other side of town, clearly I'll call them. I barely ever facebook with the people on my list who are fellow Sydneysiders. But then there's friends across the wide brown land of Aussieland, in Korea, a whole bunch of European countries, North, Central and South America... the phone bill would kill me.

And it's a bit more personal and interactive than emailing or on message boards.

I can honestly understand the first part of your post. International friends....that makes sense to me.

But the part about it being more personal...I disagree.....its like one of those letter I get from friends that are addressed to everyone. Like a random, "Im going to write one letter to everyone, and that way I feel like Im keeping up."

I hate those, they are so impersonal.

And myspace kinda reminds me of that. Its like saying, "I wont take the time to talk to you personally, so Ill just let everyone look at my myspace and see what I have updated."

I got rid of myspace. It was too distracting and the only reason I used it was to keep in contact with someone on here when the pit was down. :o We would be in the middle of a conversation and 5pm came and the curse set in.
So we would meet there. :)

I got rid of it because it was not the person I am . I was turning into someone I am not. Pictures, blogs, thoughts and feelings. It really is not me. I am more private than that. And the stalking got out of hand.
    So I deleted it.

so you were the reason I had one less friend recently? my feelings get hurt when someone drops me (which is dumb!) but now I understand.
