I have a Blackberry Pearl. It is refered to in my house as the "Crackberry" because it's rather addictive and I never go anywhere without it.

For me, it's ideal, because even though I sometimes feel like I'm a slave to work, it at least lets me get out of the office without the fear that something on my email is going to ambush me when I get back. Sadly, my clients know I have it, so I get emails on days like New Years Eve...Christmas...you name it. I still say that dashing off a quick reply even on a holiday is better than getting smacked when I get back to the office, tho.

My internet access is really good...and it's come in handy when I've gotten lost and had to look up an address or phone number in a strange city...not to mention a little web shopping in traffic. :)

I'm just not sure that I need a smart phone. It is that additional $30.00 per month for the data package that gets me.

I was first considering the Blackberry Curve, but I think that it is slower because it doesn't have 3G technology, or something like that. I think the Iphone is the same. It appears as if the Motorola Q has the latest 3G technology, but I'm not sure. This is all greek to me.

    Any updated recommendations out there?

How do you like it? How quick is your internet access? What kind do you have?

    I dont mean the fruit.

I've had one for 5 years, it's great for my job, and the newer ones have all the media functionality of other phones. Most importantly, I can ignore it when needed.

Internet access is as good as your cell companies network. Sprint and AT&T are pretty good.

Thanks for the info. We have AT&T currently, but our contract is up and we have been paying month to month.

  • thank god no. If I did it would mean that my company has suddenly found it necessary that they be able to contact me at all hours of the day and night, no matter where I am. I have so far slipped under that radar...

For work only - I have the blackberry curve - and it's ok. The main use is for email...which I get too much of anyway. I wish I had an iPhone - they are cool. More expensive up front ($399 for iPhone compared to $99-$199 for the BB) but the data costs are less.

    Blackberry Curve:
    $99-$199 on sale
$30 unlimited internet (BES server $45)
    $20 unlimited text
plus whatever phone plan you have

Plus it is really cumbersome to get on many internet pages. You can listen to music, get GPS service (extra $10 month), and it has a camera with a flash which works OK.

    Iphone:
    $399 (never go on sale)
    $20 unlimited internet AND text
plus whatever phone plan you have

Easily browse the web, listen to music, even watch movies. A friend showed me his and I'm totally jealous, it is really cool. Not sure about camera - it must have one.

I just did a lot of research on these two phones for work and found that the main advantage to the blackberry is that you can get exchange email through a BES server (work email if your business uses an exchange server).

My advice - go to an AT&T store and try them both out! Think you'll LOVE the iPhone.

Thanks for the info. I have a bday coming up and hubby wants to buy me a new phone. I hope we get a chance to visit the AT&T shop this coming weekend.
