Football fans get their national skip day from work in August, but us hockey fans get it in September when EA puts out their annual hockey game. Only played a couple games so far, but it is awesome. "Be a pro" is easily the coolest thing added to the NHL series in a long time.

there is a feature on this years game where you can play with "NHL 94" controls, and that can't be too hard at all
  • nope, 360
    ahh...

yeah I saw you can use the 2-button controls

I haven't gotten a NHL game in years. I think the last one I got was like '98 on PC or something.

Anyways, I'm thinking about getting this on PS3 as the reviews look great!

Will probably pick it up next weekend.
  • Is it out for Ps2 or just the current-gen consoles. EA's been pretty good at releasing all versions of a game at once, but I haven't seen PS2 listed anywhere and everywhere I've seen on the web gives a release date of mid Oct. after the season's already begun.
  • i'm getting it tomorrow for ps3.
You are right about the be a pro addition, it's amazing!
You can also create online teams with up to 50 people on a team which is pretty cool aswell.
And about the ps2 version, everything i've read says it doesn't come out till october

  • I just played two games with a league from OperationSports.com. I got stuck playing defense both games even though I'm technically a winger and had an assist on a shorthanded goal.

But that was it for the highlights. We lost 3-2 and 4-0.

I can see myself wasting a lot of time with this because as someone said before, this is the coolest thing to be added to hockey game in a LONG time.

I saw you were online last night as soon as I fired up the game.

I love it....graphics, presentation, controls....beaplayer is awesome. I am sure it may get old, but I like watching from the bench waiting for my shift or watching from the penalty box. ;)
I am a LW grinder on the Wolfpack, got my first goal in the third game, but sadly, that is the only goal our team has scored in 3 games. We are 0-2-1.
I didn't want to turn it off. Controlling only one player takes getting used to as it's hard to position yourself and watch the play at the same time. matter of getting used to though.

edit: I wonder what happens if you get injured?

  • getting it a noon today for PS3!

I cannot find this game anywhere. It looks damn good. I had NHL 08 and it was the first hockey game that I deemed (dare I say) more fun then NHL 94. If anyone is starting an online team, let me know.

I was actually on my PSP last night (remote play). I'm on the road for work and I can log onto the PSN (and my PS3) via my PSP. I have the PS Eye and I was checking in on my cat (lol, :D yeah I know it's lame but it's a cool feature).

It sounds like a cool game, so I'll probably pick it up this weekend and we'll have to play.

The only cost is the cost of the equipment. PS3 (which you have), PSP, and PS Eye. The PS Eye is about $25.
I use the Eye all the time to video chat with my friends across the country...it's also nice in some games (ex. High Stakes Poker)

The PSP and PS3 have a remote play feature that allows you to access your PS3 (videos, music, pics, some games etc.) on your PSP as long as there is WIFI...which is pretty much everywhere now. You can turn on your Eye via remote play and see what's going on too.

Also, I have Media Server set up on my PS3. With that, while on the road not only can I access all my PS3 content, but all the media content on my home PC. Basically I have access to my 3400 songs, thousands of pics, videos, etc that are on my computer anywhere in the world.

    Cool feature indeed...

Anyways and sorry to get off topic...I'll pick this game up tomorrow and we'll have to play. Just don't kick my ass too bad...I haven't played a hockey game in years. :D
  • got the game yesterday and played it once i got home from work. Absolutely amazing, and be a pro is incredible. I chose my player to be a playmaker but i have 8 goals in 4 games so should have gone with sniper lol... Gotta get 60 assists this season to go from rookie to pro so i think i might change over to sniper since i think it might be a little bit easier to progress through the game.

Are any of you interested in starting a league online? I have the game for ps3 so if anybody else is interested i'll create a league when i get home from work tonight and we'll get this started.

I'd be interested! I'm getting the game tomorrow and after a little practice I'd be ready to go.

Havent had a chance to get to into it yet, but it after a quick browsing of the many options, it looks like one of the greatest sports games ever. I'm looking forward to playing one of the multi player games.

  • I am a LW 'grinder' w/3 goals in four games. (the only goals my Wolfpack have scored I might add) When you guys are in "be a player" do you sit on the bench and wait for your shift? I kind of like it as I can go grab another beer:)

    mca47, I may get a psp now!

That's an awful expensive remote access tool ;)

So, I picked this up today and I have to admit that it is a damn good game!
Be a Pro is a ton of fun!

I also have to admit that I pretty much suck right now as I'm learning the controls, but it's still really fun. Graphics are really nice too.

Most "Be A Pro" features in EA games aren't usually that good. Glad it seems like they're figuring it out.

I've only done the "Be A Pro" on Fifa

I just started it tonight and it is quite good. I'm enjoying it a lot more than dynasty mode, and I'm on the farm team...
