But I know I have to do it for training purposes and when he does something bad...it's just when I see him in there, he's so lonely. and he cries...makes me wanna cry. :(

Oh well, I guess he has to learn somehow that biting the cat and knocking over the portable phone and digital camera are not OK.

    He's just so adorable...

I've been training dogs for over 12 years and I must say puting your puppy in the crate for discipline is the worst thing you can do. I raise Seeing Eye Dogs (guide dogs) so I know what you're going through. I have a puppy right now as well but what you need to do is really just train him another way. When he does something bad you give him a toy or a bone but make sure you are always watching him. I know having a puppy is stressful but believe me dogs who spend most of their time in the crate do not become well discplined ever and will just give you a harder time. It's okay if you're at work and you need to put him in the crate but whatever you do don't put him in there as a form of discipline. Just try excersising him early in the morning so he's tired by lunch time, where you repeat the cycle again. If you need any more help just PM me.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

    Thanks for the input...

I have gathered from the respondes that I am not training him 100% right. I guess the puppy classes that I am starting this week will really help...this is my first time raising a puppy, so I am not sure all the time what to do.

I want him to be a good, well-adjusted and friendly dog.

    Thank you for your response.

Crate trainong is the best thing you could do. I stressed to my wife that we should do it to our to dogs (males, not brothers), She would not allow it b/c she felt bad. Now we pay the price, For months they pee'd all over the fucking place!
Please trust me, stick with it.

Seriously! that's what puppy classes do - train the trainer!! your pup knows it all....you just have to be taught how to get him to do it! It was a humbling experience...both times I did it. I learn something everytime I take my dogs to a class.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

Don't worry about it, once they become used to the crate it almost becomes like a 'den' to them. The trick is to make them think that the crate is 'good' instead of 'bad'. Always leave the crate door open so they can go in and out. You can also put toys and other things in their.

I've never been a fan of crateing a dog when he does something wrong. That's why people have trouble crate training. There are other ways of pos/neg reenforcement.

Stick to your guns, though, they do get used to it.

great advice. My dog loves his crate. I just upgraded him to this monster crate too. Throw him an old blanket in there and cover it up with a blanket, but I leave the part where the door is uncovered. It's like his own little cave. He's a really dark brown too, so sometimes you can't even see his ass in there. :D
