Yeah, my wife needs a device to cook rice. I tell her to boil 2 parts water, one part rice, and simmer for 15 minutes. How much easier can it get? She would insist on a rice cooker if I didn't make the rice.

  • I put the eggs in...add cold water - let come to a boil and boil for about 8 minutes. and then, turn off and pour out water...let eggs cool.

    no more runny eggs.

You have got to be kidding.....now we need a damn device to boil an egg?!!? I'm telling you, all it takes a pot that you already have and water. It doesn't take a miracle of Jesus to boil an egg.

    Haha this^^^^

Put them in the cold water, turn on the heat. After the water boils, let it boil for about 10 minutes. Turn it off, dump out the hot water in the sink and immediately run cold water into the pan. Do this a couple times. Then leave them in the cold water for a bit before peeling them. Supposedly the super fresh eggs are the hardest to peel (ie. the ones most recently laid).

Put the eggs in a pot and cover with water (any temp). Cook eggs for 30 minutes on a medium to high flame, then rinse with cold water and peel. Presto... hard boiled eggs.

Alright, put a hole in the end of the egg with a skewer. Only a very small one so all the egg doesn't come out. I think this prevents pressure building up in the egg and exploding. Then put them into some water, so it is just covering the egg, bring to the boil. Once it is on the boil, leave it on the boil for about 6-7 minutes, you should get the yolk a little hard but still a little soft. Give this way a go.....

seriously this thing makes the perfect boiled eggs. i use it all the time. it comes with all you need and it's really easy. doesn't take much water and it works on its own timer so you don't have to worry about them. here's what it looks like up close so you can get a better idea - http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g109/amperryman7/DSCN0198.jpg

or do it the old fashioned way and bring water to a boil, drop eggs in, and i let them boil for 10 or 15 minutes and they're done.

    good luck! ;)

I let the water come to a full boil, then I turn off the heat and drop the eggs in ... 20 minutes later I crack those suckers and they're STILL runny ... which is good, but not for egg salad.

    Where did I go wrong?

I kept doing this last week. I kid you not, I wasted 9 goddamned eggs. Then I finally realized that I needed to boil the water with the eggs in it, and THEN remove it from the heat and leave it covered for 15 minutes. Then they were perfect!

    Good to know.

I just tried to make rice (like, real rice...not minute rice) for the first time a few weeks ago and it was sticky and gooey. :(

i honestly think that Jasmine rice is the EASIEST!! i really don't try to cook other kinds now. anyway, basically it's 1 cup of rice, 1 and a half cups of water, salt to taste, bring to a boil, turn heat on low, cover for 20 minutes and it's done and PERFECT! :D no stirring, and no special pot to cook it in.

what's so bad about a rice cooker?

put the rice in, and the water, turn the thing on, and it automatically cooks the rice until it senses that the moisture has been absorbed; then it switches to a mode that will keep the rice warm for many hours.

    i love the thing.

i turn it on when i get home and by the time my wife gets home the rice is still nice and hot.

I do this and it works every time. I make them quite often too, about 10 at a time:

Bring a large pot about 2/3's full of water to a full on boil.

Drop the eggs in carefully so they are all completely covered by water.

    Turn off the heat.

    Cover the pot.

Let stand in the water for 15 minutes.

Drain the water and put ice cold water in the pot. Keep rinsing the eggs with cold, cold water until the shells are cool to the touch.
