Anyone pick this up yet? I cannot wait!!!!!

According to many reviews, this may be one of the best games ever created.

According to IGN.com...
"Is it possible to give a game an 11? (out of 10, which only a couple games EVER have received) If so, this would be the game that would merit that score. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a title that exceeds all of the hype that was attached to the title. Regardless of whether you've seen every trailer and screenshot, read every preview and heard every interview, you won't get a full sense of how phenomenal this title is unless you sit down and experience it for yourself.

This weekend I will def. be picking this up!!! Can't wait!!

I'm tempted to get it after the reviews, but I rarely use my PS3 to play games and rather as a blu-ray player.. the rest of my games are collecting dust.

Not sure of the exact reasons this wasn't released on 360, but I've heard the game fills up the 50 GB blu-ray disc.

Sorry Xbox, DVD is no longer cutting it. :p

I saw a friend play a bit today. Old Snake is just that, old. It looked mighty fun!

Got it, it's decent (keeping in mind I never got into any of the other ones...played yes, got into no...).
Better control than previous Metal Gears, obviously, and MGO is on the same disc so the entire BRD isn't used for the single player game.
I have been getting caught a lot but haven't died yet...
    The MP is ok.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get it tonight. Can't wait!!

Between MGS4, GTA4, MLB The Show, and still playing COD4...I don't have enough time for all of them!! Hahahaha!

That game looks sick!! Too bad I don't have PS3.. come to think about it, I haven't owned a game system since Nintendo 64:o So you guys are saying that PS3 is the way to go? Wii's pretty dope but gets kind of old playing the same games all the time.

Too much opinion for that question, not enough fact.
For example, I play my 360 much, much, much more often than my PS3.

Yeah but it takes longer installing the game on a PS3 then it would to swap a disc. A HELL of a lot longer. Someone told me you have to install each chapter as you go through MGS4! Is that true? PS3 instillation is a fooking joke!

    No that isn't true.
There's an approximately 8 minute install when you first fire the game up and then you're done with installations unless you delete that data.
And no, swapping discs doesn't take very long. For a brand that had tons of disc swapping for kick-ass games they sure like to talk, huh? ;)

I picked this game up today. It will be the first game I've bought for the PS3, as I use it mainly for a blu-ray player. I didn't have a PS2, but two of my favorite games are the original Metal Gear for the NES and the outstanding Metal Gear Solid for the original playstation.

I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with an old friend this weekend.

I'm pretty sure it's similar to the GTA4 install. Install once and that's it.
That I have no problems with.

I've never heard of an installation before every chapter. Maybe he meant "load time" before every chapter :p
  • I went out at midnight Wednesday to pick up the "new" 80 gig bundle w/MGS4. I also picked up The Show and up to this point it's all I played as MGS4 is still sealed. I hope to crack it open tonight but with over 30 (mostly superior) XBOX 360 games I think playing time is going to be limited.

I will probably trade in a good portion of my 360 games just because there are some I just don't hardly play anymore, and that way I can pay off some games coming out in the next few months.

Isn't the MGS bundle a 40G model? -> Nevermind, my bad, 80 it is.
Most of the PS3 users on here love that Show (not me, but that ties in with my hatred of watching baseball anyway :p)

I love The Show '08!!! Probably play that more than anything else.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for sports games and now I am able to see what all the talk was about and boy am I impressed. I was about 50 games into 2K8 on the 360 but that's getting traded in this evening :D

But I don't want to get off topic...

I really am excited to play MGS4, but is it true that the opening cutscene is 62 minutes long and that half the game consists of cutscenes?

No, and yes. Everyone was saying that there was a 90 minute cutscene in the game but whoever reviewed it for EGM or some magazine said they played it through twice and didn't see a 90 minute cutscene.
That said there's a lot of cutscene, as usual, much of it painfully long and unnecessary, other stuff exciting and informative...

I never minded the cutscenes. Then again I love rpgs so I'm used to long breaks in action.

I don't mind cutscenes either, but some of them should end 5-10 minutes before they do and just feel like they are dragging on and on for no reason.
    Some of them, not all.
On an unrelated note, I also love RPGs, Square Enix is showing the 360 some love (not that it'll help in Japan) with some RPG goodness.

I understand what youre saying. I find myself skipping some of the GTA IV cut scenes to get to the mission, but mostly because I'm having fun and am eager to play some more. Does the story make sense atleast? The MGS 2: Sons of Liberty story was way confusing for me.

I heard Blue Dragon was awesome on the 360. I heard average stuff about Lost Odyssey. Lost Odyssey was created by the guy behind FFVII so I'll try it out anyway. It on four(!) disks though.

LO is quite good. Blue Dragon could be good, if you're between the ages of 4 and 10 (they're made by the same guy/studio).

They haven't gotten into the story in Metal Gear too heavy yet (I'm in the 5th or 6th level). It isn't hard to follow yet.

I just finished Act 1, and lo and behold, 4 minute installation for Act 2....
Now the installation is no big deal to me, but c'mon, you've got an 8 minute installation, and potentially multiple 4 minute installations, and you're making fun of someone else for 5 second disc swaps? Hehehehehe!

I picked it up last night. So far so good.

Damn, the graphics are pretty incredible!

Thats what annoys me. Sony released a video with snake and otacon taunting microsoft about how blu-ray is superior and there is no need to swap discs but the instillation takes way longer then swapping a freakin' disc. Bloody propaganda :(

Who cares? It's a great game! It doesn't bother you there are 5-10 minute cut scenes, but a 4 minute "install" annoys you?

Oh well. All in all, I think this game is badass!

It isn't the install that is annoying, it's the laughing at someone else while committing similar sins. The installs, like a disc swap, are fine.

And yeah, so far the game is pretty darn good. Definitely the best I've got for the system.
