The 90's were really bad for the dead. They couldn't stop this huge machine they had created. Too many people were being supported by them touring.

YUP. Painful all the way around.

Some of the first concerts I went to. I'll never forget them and all the interesting people at the shows. :D

Mine as well starting in 1982, and indeed, at times, the people were more entertaining than the band.

And to me, summer just aint the same without GD shows.

Oh man 1982 well I was really young and not into the dead yet. lol :D

Yea I was just getting into seeing the dead and figuring out what it all ment. I had decided that following them was what I would have done. After Jerry's passing I was lost on what to do and what music to enjoy. Then I fell back into PJ and since then its been just fine. :)

same here except I had a three year voyage into hip hop and "Indie" bands in the early 90s

I Still go to the Ratdog shows whenever I can-Really good time

PJ-my first show was Randalls 2 (damn TM boycott!) and I had backstage passes. Not the same since.

I never could get into Phish. I tried but I thought of them as a rip off to the dead. I never and still don't get their music.

This is very true. I find it very sad more than anything, people tried many many times to get him help, but he refused. When I think of Jerry, I think
    "damn shame"

But my brain cells are glad he is gone! Im just glad I was able to see a whole bunch of shows in the eleven years I went to dead and jerry shows

Totally agree on the Jerry comment. It's really too bad that he (and Brent) couldn't escape their addictions. A lot of people got mad at Phils comments on the 60 minutes interview, but I think they were right on:

“It’s one of the biggest tragedies or the biggest bring-downs of my whole life, to know that he loved the drug more than he loved us,” says Lesh. “I felt like I had mourned him already when I got the call, and I had been mourning him for years. He was gone for years.”

As for Ratdog, yeah they are a great live band. There are a few Weir songs that I can go the rest of my life hearing though, (Lazy Lightning --> Supplication, Weather Report --> Let it Grow).
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Very accurate. I forgot about that sixty minutes episode. I stopped going in 1993, it was too painful to watch and listen to.
Just saw an awesome version of the weather>LIG at the beacon on 4/5.
I try to catch Bobby whenever I can.

From someone who spent too much time on Dead tour, does anyone else hate the reference ''Jamily"; I obviously hate it.

I dont use it but I have no problem with being positive, I can think of alot of other refrences.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

He's got two shows coming up with Govt Mule at the beginning of July. Best part about it, it's at a venue that I can Kayak up to and watch for free (otherwise tix are $70!).

One of the best parts of the 'Dead' show I saw with Warren was his solo version of Stella Blue prior to the full dead set. Not too familiar with Govt Mule outside of his work with the dead, but I thought he fit it well, and his voice filled in the bluesy end that the dead lost when Brent died.

But yeah, I'll have to wear a life preserver!

Im sorry, but that stella makes me cringe. Certain JG tunes should be left alone and thats one of them IMHO.

Warren is ok as a special guest, when he is in the band his style is just to prevalent for me, but hey, we all get something a little different out of each show!

It was a great moment. Acoustic, pretty tasteful (I thought). During the song a Red Tailed Hawk was flying around above the stage which added to the atmosphere.

Currently listening to a nice RatDog show available on the 'Athcast' podcast. Do a search for Ratdog on iTUNES, and it should show up under podcasts. SBD quality.

    edited to add the link:

Back to the (somewhat) subject, PJ is one of those bands that has definitely taken the place that the Dead held (holds) to me too.

    I have one question...

who's the person who has seen Pearl Jam at least 100 times!?!
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

While there are many similarities between the GD and PJ one big difference is that PJ fans are way more uptight about where their seats are.
At GD show people just wandered around, the halls were filled with spinning dancers and the tapers had the floor, front and center.
