Barely on a map yes, but in metality south all the way. But then you already knew that.

how so? isn't this thread about Obama? didn't Obama WIN most of the "dixie" states while losing Kentucky?

EDIT: went back and checked. Obama did indeed win all the "dixie" states while Clinton won Ohio, Indiana, Tennesee, WV, and I believe Virginia. which would mean that the people of Kentucky likely have more in common with these states than the people of the deep south.

Anytime Obama doesn't win, his supporters can't wait to cry about that state being racist or backwoods dixie...it's really ridiculous. Did you catch the W Virginia thread?

I guess SC, NC, GA and so on have all become enlightened enough now to rise above the dixie stereotype because they voted for Obama!! I wonder if it will keep these same people from making ignorant remarks in the future about these states? Somehow I'm doubting it.

I didn't catch that thread, but I've seen it all over the media.......Hillary wins by landslide in mostly white WV and it's because they're poor uneducated racists....Obama gets 90% of the black vote in NC and not a word is mentioned of such a disparity. when in actuality, places like WV and Kentucky are closer to the "middle" than NC, at least in terms of geographic location and where their neighbors in bordering states stand on political issues.

and I can tell you already, it won't keep anyone from talking crap about the south. if Obama wins in November, it will be because of the southern states that swung his way. but we'll still be a bunch of racist hillbillies.

obama won those southern states because of the black vote. those black voters have not stated in the past they wouldn't vote for a white person. clearly they've been voting for white people. people have actually stated, in states such as KY and WV, that they wouldn't vote for obama *because of his race*. there is a big difference here.

here we go. i love you, oregon!
    http://www.abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Politics/story?id=4896202&page=1

Working-class (i.e. less educated) whites, consistently a better Clinton group, especially in Southern states, were far more dominant in Kentucky than in Oregon. They accounted for two-thirds of white voters in Kentucky, and backed Clinton by 4-1. Working-class whites in Oregon divided, 50 percent for Clinton, 49 percent for Obama.
But in Kentucky it wasn't just about the white working class; Clinton won college-educated whites in Kentucky as well, by less of a margin but nearly 2-1. Obama's problem was with these white voters overall. His greatest losses among whites, by 40 points or more, all have been in Southern states – Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Reflecting their discomfort with Obama, nearly half of Kentucky Democrats said they would not support him in a November election against John McCain, again similar to the result in West Virginia. In Oregon, by contrast, only 12 percent said they wouldn't vote for Obama against McCain, as many as wouldn't support Clinton as the nominee.

As in West Virginia, among other states, there were indications of some racially motivated voting in Kentucky. Nearly two in 10 whites said race was an important factor in their vote, and nearly nine in 10 of them voted for Clinton. More strikingly, among those whites who called race a factor, just 29 percent said they'd support Obama if he's the nominee in November – the fewest to date in states where the question's been asked. Four in 10 said they'd support McCain; the rest wouldn't vote.

yeah the black people voted for obama there in SC, NC, and GA. that's how he won. he lost states like KY and WV partially because some whites wouldn't vote for him. and those states had many more white voters overall. race is just one part of many things in this election, but it is a part.

actually, Obama has had a huge number of newly registered voters who voted for him. which would mean voters who haven't voted before. which would be another way of saying in the past that they weren't going to vote for a white candidate.

to be honest it does not mean that it the past they would not hav evoted for a white candidate, it could mean that in teh past they were not allowed to vote i.e. they were too young.

if they came of age and Obama was not running they might still have voted for a white candidate.

Obama has registered a huge number of new white voters as well.
Futhermore, i think its fair to point out that far more than race, gender as played a large role in this primay season with clinton clearly benefitting from that. The vast majority of clinton suppoters swearing they will never vote for Obama are women, and thats true throughout the United States, not just select pockets.

You believe wrong. Obama absolutely killed Clinton in Virginia - 64% to 35%.

Also, in "dixie" states, the majority of whites vote Republican - so, and I'm just guessing here, but I imagine anyone who wins a Democratic primary in one of those states probably won the black vote.

    How extremely small minded.

I'm pretty sure it has a lot to do with more conservative views, no trust in the govt, immigration, jobs, economy and also religious views (which many feel liberal types disrespect)

Well, I'm sure you didn't hear from every voter, just the ones who say some dumb shit so the media has some sensationlaistic, divisive story they can plaster all over the news. I have a hard time believing you have some sort of proof that the majority of voters voted the way they did because of race. Also, there has been record numbers of people registering to vote from many different groups.
