I definitely liked the original version more. This is one of those tricky little situations that can make a guy look bad.

Maybe it's because I go to school at Southern Illinois University and we've had a chancellor step down and a president stand his ground after having plagiarism charges leveled at them, but this seems shifty to me.

I wish Obama would have given the other guy credit for the idea of framing those famous quotes into a speech on the power of words, especially with the irony of cribbing from someone else's words. It wouldn't have been difficult and it would have saved Obama a little embarrassment.

Hopefully its the worst thing Obama does in his public life. I'll take that.

Dr. Glenn isn't going anywhere. The charges against him were bullshit. He is a hell of a guy.

Obama should have said some like, "as a good friend of mine once said,", but if this is all the Clinton camp has then they're in trouble.

i agree. i'm a little nervous about Wisconsin today though. i think Obama needs to win to keep the momentum going and put and end to this stupid story once and for all.

  • Clinton camp must be desperate. This is going to become sad (or funny to Clinton haters).

Yeah, I'm surprised that Obama's camp really hasn't jumped on this to show Clinton's desperation. Between criticizing Obama for being such a good speaker, and not this trumped up plagiarism claim, Clintons are really grasping at straws.

Well, seeing as no one believed the one about him sucking crackhead cock in Chicago, this is the next best thing.

What do you mean no one believed it? That's the only reason I voted for him.

here is a less biased report on the same story. first of all, those are famous quotes and anyone can use them. second, obama is friends with Gov. Deval Patrick and his use of those quotes appears have been discussed with Patrick before Obama made the speech.

"Obama, Clinton camps point to borrowed rhetoric"

    i agree.

does anyone else find it amusing that we (everyone, including the media) generally use the term "rhetoric" with a slightly derogatory tone, but when it's "borrowed" we get all bent out of shape? who GIVES A SHIT???

this kind of silliness from the clinton camp just makes me more certain that she'd grasping at straws b/c she knows she's gonna lose. after these stunts, she better not have any hopes for a position in the obama administration. :D

    i think he will.

i sure hope so. i'd love to see the momentum continue and build, and i'd love for the media to have something significant to talk about instead of juvenile, meaningless smear tactics from the clinton cap. i'd love to hear the clinton camp try to spin two more losses.

I always thought he copied Robbie Krieger's solo in 5 to 1. It is a copycat world.

It does sound like that as well. But if you listen to "She" by Kiss, it's a direct rip off. Mike even said he did it in an issue of Deep. I could care less because Alive is one of my favorite songs ever.

Rollin Stones and Led Zeppelin ripped off the old American blues artists and songs in pretty much everything they did.

I love those bands as well.

Don't care if Obama's "words" speech was inspired or based on another speech. I think certain people want to fry him no matter what he does.

  • My point was that nowadays it is very hard to come up with something that doesn't sound like something else. I was using music as an example.

Again, IMO I could care less if Obama borrows/uses/steals powerful words or messages to get his point across. You could probably look at anyone's speech, music, ideas, and say that they are coming from somewhere else.

Except Ron Paul and we see how well he is doing.

Deval Patrick had an incredible state campaign that year, none of his opposing candidates even had a chance.
Plus, I saw him three times that year,
he actually travels across the entire state of MA unlike other candidates.

As long Obama wins, I'll be happy.
plus, they're both Chicago natives, I'm sure they're friends.

i had told this clown that started this thread that the quotes OBAMA used are famous quotes and that its not plagarism because he was in reponse to being accused of just ''talking'' and he explained hey... these guys were just talking when they ''insert famous quote here''

this is not ripping a speech off and he shouldnt be accused of that.

i find it funny this is even an issue when they are friends, and he told Obama he could quote him.

this was something fixed news forgot to mention when i watched it last night (just to laugh at it)

all they said was "obama plagerizes patrick," making obama look bad in ways only fox news can
