You are aware those quotes are famous?? and he is doing the exact same thing patrick was doing answering to allegations of him just spewing words... this is not plagiarism and if you think it is... well youre a moron.

    just words.
  • omfg... I'm not an Obama champion, but he's admitted to this already, and he had permission to use this.

    Don't believe the Clinton propaganda...
Obama, talking to reporters on a Monday morning trip to Ohio before returning to Wisconsin, said Patrick had suggested he use the lines and they frequently traded ideas.

"I was on the stump. He had suggested that we use these lines and I thought they were good lines," Obama said, adding he should have acknowledged Patrick as the author.

"I'm sure I should have -- didn't this time," he said. "I really don't think this is too big of a deal."

Obama's campaign released a list of quotes from Clinton using some of Obama's catch phrases, and Obama cited some to reporters.

"When Senator Clinton said it's time to turn the page in one of her stump speeches, or said she's fired up and ready to go, I don't think anybody suggests that somehow she's not focused on the issues she's focused on," he said, adding he doubted Ohio or Wisconsin voters cared about the controversy.

I tend to believe this more than the section you chose to hand pick from the article

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said the use of the lines called into question Obama's rhetoric -- one of the Illinois senator's main selling points.

"Senator Obama is running on the strength of his rhetoric and the strength of his promises and, as we have seen in the last couple of days, he's breaking his promises and his rhetoric isn't his own," Wolfson said.

    1st - why is Obama a liar?

2nd - it's plain sad? Patrick told Obama to use it. I think your obvious bias is sad.

    Here's Obama's response:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080218/ap_on_el_pr/democrats_10

"I've written two books, wrote most of my speeches. So I think putting aside the question ... in terms of whether my words were my own, I think that would be carrying it too far," Obama said.

He noted that Clinton occasionally had borrowed language from him.

"I really don't think this is too big of a deal," Obama said. "When Senator Clinton says 'It's time to turn the page' in one of her stump speeches or says she's 'fired up and ready to go,' I don't think that anybody suggests that she's not focused on the issues that she's focused on."

He hit back harder at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, turning Clinton's criticism of his speeches into a biting critique of her past support of trade deals, including the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"She says speeches don't put food on the table. You know what? NAFTA didn't put food on the table, either," Obama said, bringing the Rust Belt crowd to its feet.

it means Clinton's campaign can't stand on it's own laurels, so it'll attack Obama to fill the void. She can't inspire, she can't implement change other than that she is not Bush, she is the same old Democrat, and Obama isn't, and the establishment is afraid of Obama winning, it's the changing of the guard, and no one of her generation will see the inside of the White House as President ever again.

but that's just my take, lol

It was one small freaking paragraph about the significance of words and speeches in which he paraphrased a few lines from a good friend. Whoop de do! The clintons are pathetic and so is anyone who gives two shits about this non-issue. The guy wrote two books in which the audio versions have won grammies. He does most of his speech writing. This is nothing. If this is what the clinton's have, i think they better give back the furniture they stole from the white house because they aren't getting back in there.

Polls are showing a dead heat in Texas. Look out.

I definitely liked the original version more. This is one of those tricky little situations that can make a guy look bad.

Maybe it's because I go to school at Southern Illinois University and we've had a chancellor step down and a president stand his ground after having plagiarism charges leveled at them, but this seems shifty to me.

I wish Obama would have given the other guy credit for the idea of framing those famous quotes into a speech on the power of words, especially with the irony of cribbing from someone else's words. It wouldn't have been difficult and it would have saved Obama a little embarrassment.

Hopefully its the worst thing Obama does in his public life. I'll take that.

He also got MLK and FDR in their too.

    SCANDELOUS!!!!

    This is a non story.

I find it more funny the media focused on two words from a non memorable speech rather than the ones from great speeches.

when you find Deval Patrick or someone neutral saysomething like that, let me know. A quote from a Clinton spokesman trying to knock Obama? That doesn't mean a whole lot. Hillary's getting desperate. There's even an article from a few years ago where both Obama and Patrick talk about how they share ideas, and both have given each other unilateral permission to use the other's ideas.

Dr. Glenn isn't going anywhere. The charges against him were bullshit. He is a hell of a guy.

Obama should have said some like, "as a good friend of mine once said,", but if this is all the Clinton camp has then they're in trouble.

i agree. i'm a little nervous about Wisconsin today though. i think Obama needs to win to keep the momentum going and put and end to this stupid story once and for all.

Yeah, I'm surprised that Obama's camp really hasn't jumped on this to show Clinton's desperation. Between criticizing Obama for being such a good speaker, and not this trumped up plagiarism claim, Clintons are really grasping at straws.

    i agree.

does anyone else find it amusing that we (everyone, including the media) generally use the term "rhetoric" with a slightly derogatory tone, but when it's "borrowed" we get all bent out of shape? who GIVES A SHIT???

this kind of silliness from the clinton camp just makes me more certain that she'd grasping at straws b/c she knows she's gonna lose. after these stunts, she better not have any hopes for a position in the obama administration. :D

i sure hope so. i'd love to see the momentum continue and build, and i'd love for the media to have something significant to talk about instead of juvenile, meaningless smear tactics from the clinton cap. i'd love to hear the clinton camp try to spin two more losses.
