Is there security in your job in these hard times?

I work for a property management company. Whether or not the occupancy is high or low, the property still require managing. So I'm not directly affected by these hard times, thank god, or science....whichever you believe in.

Although our management fees are based on the income each property generates. While people are losing houses etc., I wonder if our occupancy will go up because more people will need to rent. Or if people losing jobs etc., will lower our occupancy. I'm a believer in things sort of evening out....but I guess we'll see.

Of course military jobs hardly fluctuate in response to economic conditions. Growing up as a Navy brat during the 90's, I didn't even realize there was a recession going on. Job security is just a given for career military people.

My job is safe. Recession or no recession, people are still going to get cancer, unfortunately.

I find most of these reponses laughable... Wow so 90% of you out there have job security.

  • I find that being a bright, motivated litigation attorney has some security, because there are always plaintiffs filing lawsuits and always firms looking for hard workers.

i'm a visiting lecturer at Towson U, and was lined up to have a job next fall, but they have a hiring freeze going on right now so I have to look for jobs elsewhere...funny that they said education was recession proof.

NOT necessarily job security but more about the recession and our current economic situation. Hell anybody can be fired and for no reason at all including me.

  • I don't know a single person who has lost their job. I am in the south Florida area.

Certainly if you worked in the banking or auto industry you should have seen the writing on the wall.

I want to be a teacher. I stopped going to school eight years ago, because I was worried about being a starving student. Now that I've been through the ups and downs of processing permits for the building industry, I've realized I can live on a lot less.

Now I'm working on a plan to get back into school.

When teaching time comes, I'll go where the jobs are. I think that's part of the recession proof jobs. They may not be available EVERYWHERE, but there will always be places in need.
Walking can be a real trip

well most people dont lose their jobs in a down economy. but enough of a percentage will to make it a problem.

but job security is a myth anyway.
