I can't stand professional basketball anymore. This is what happens when you raise ticket prices through the roof, to the point where it's too expensive to take your kids to see a game. All major sports are guilty of this and that is why I watch college sports. In college at least these kids are playing their asses off, not that they don't in the pros, but it is 3x cheaper to go see a game and sometimes far more thrilling.

ps. I agree with unsung that the NBA is crap now. I used to love basketball, watching people like Jordan, Pippen, Ewing, Bird, Magic, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, David Robinson, etc… These athletes where professional and they did what was best for the team. Now a days you have players who only care about how much money they make or how many touches they get a game. They bitch and complain if they don't play enough minutes or if another team mate got the ball in the last minute of the game. It's like watching a bunch of individuals on the court instead of a team. The quality has surely slipped in the NBA.

Name these players you speak of please, and in terms of quality, did you watch last season?

Give me one hockey player, any hockey player in the NHL that is as bad as Ron Artest. Or Latrell Sprewell. Or Dennis Rodman, Jayson Williams, Kobe, Shawn Kemp, Jason Kidd, Isaiah Rider... the list goes on.

Only 3 of those guys are even in the league anymore. And one of them is not guilty of a certain "rear entry" crime.

Actually the NBA right now is a pretty clean sport. The Major stars are all pretty good guys.

Dwight Howard, Lebron, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Greg Oden, Deron Williams etc . . .

At least the NBA doesn't have Pac Man Jones & Baseball's steroid problem.

I won't be going to any games either they're TOOO damn expensive. I'd rather attend a hockey game instead.

Economy is hitting everybody will you skip out on any professional games?

Peace

people still give a shit about the nba? amazing.

i'll be going to some hockey games this year....albiet AHL games. live too far from any nhl cities, and i especially don't want to be driving long distances in the winter. as far as any other pro games go, i'll be hitting up some yankee games next season in the new stadium. looking forward to it, can't wait.

Just like the news, they only focus on the bad boys who gets themselves in trouble. ;)

I think the NFL is by far the worst of all sports when it comes to questionable characters of their behaviors.

I'll add KG, Ray Allen, Carlos Boozer, Shane Battier and Derek Fisher are good characters in the game as well.

They're only 3 of those players you name are in the league.

They're far more in the NFL with thuggery in their past. I haven't been to a basketball game since Jordan was here in DC and that was $40 back then for nose bleed. Hockey tickets for a Bruins game down in Florida was $30-$35 and I was able to move down to the really nice seats near center ice.

Why is that amazing? A lot more people care about the NBA than the NHL.

• The NBA is like Saturday Night Live.
You only like the generation you grew up watching it seems.
I remember when it was Sandler/Spade/Schneider/Farley.. all people did was bitch about how unfunny it was... and now so many of us remember those as the good old days, and then it was "good until ferrell left"...

Same thing with the NBA.. Isiah/Bird/Magic/Jordan... blah blah.
I will admit there was kind of a dead time there at the end of the 90's...
but right now, as mentioned above, the league is very strong with both Youthful individuals (Paul, Lebron, Wade, etc) and slightly older guys like Duncan, KG and Nash.
• and Isiah may still be technically employed by the Knicks (I actually was not able to find any confirmation if they ever technically fired him- he was going to be a "special consultant" when they brought in Walsh) but he definately has no say in coaching or personnel decisions.

Where you get this list?

You mean ice hockey is not on there anywhere, you see that's what happens when you strike and miss an entire season. Love hockey but way too many teams the sport is completely watered down.

I thought volleyball was the most popular sport.

I googled it and compared it to several lists. This was the most common listing. I thought basketball and golf would be higher myself.

Look at tv ratings and such.....isn't the nhl on the versus network? I'm sure ratings and revenue give a more complete picture than just polling the 30 people you know

The NBA is fine it's just too expensive and the season is way tooooo long. The playoffs can get intense especially if the CELTICS are involved.

You are the one who is swearing and seems upset. I bring up hockey because YOU said no one cares about the nba and then started talking about hockey. So i was making a point that more people care about the nba than the nhl. Again, YOU were the one who brought up hockey.

I love how this thread started about how the economy is effecting pro sports, and by the 4th post someone turns into a thread about "too many thugs" in the nba and it leads to a 4 page thread about which sport has more criminals (yes, i know i added to the thread)

Bertuzzi was bad. So was McSorley.

Artest has been suspended how many times and for how long? Spreewell tried to kill PJ Carlesemo, Rodman kicked a photographer in the groin area amongst many other wrongdoings, Kobe may have gotten away with RAPE but we won't know because money talks, Iverson got away with kidnapping, how many NBA players have been arrested on drug charges? How about gun charges? How many NHLers have thumped their wives like Jason Kidd?

You really want to play a race card? Shall we go back ten years and list all of the trouble makers and see what their demographics are?

I love how you equate drug charges with being a thug. People on this board post about smoking weed all the time and I'm pretty sure if they got arrested no one would call them a "thug". Or if Seth Rogan got arrested no one would call him a "thug". And don't tell me that hockey and baseball players don't own guns. It seems like the "race card" is appropriate here.

i answered the OP's question about going to any games this year by saying i would be going to a few AHL games. that's all i said about hockey. not to mention the fact my first reply to this thread was on page 3. there was other talk about hockey way before i posted, yet you decided to give me shit. i also brought up baseball, how come you didn't have a comment about that?

oh, and the nba still sucks, nothing changed overnight.
