I've got news for the original poster. Every moderator has a bias; every one of them is going to vote for one party and one candidate over another. Thus far, even though that is true, they have been pretty good and pretty even handed. The only way you could get a "fair" vote is if you were going to get a moderator that was not going to vote, which would be fair to no one since it takes a good bit of political involvement to pose decent questions.

Raising a hue and cry against this moderator seems to me hedging your bets against a devastating loss for Palin. She has thus far not come across as the world's most astute debater. I think she will be good, and I think she will stick to her glittering generalities as much as possible. She already has the ADVANTAGE of having called what kind of debate it would be--a limited debate with reduced opportunities to make egregious errors against Biden. If she and Biden were to have the debate Obama and McCain had, she'd be laughed off the floor of the debates. Her repetoire of talking points is severely limited. In essence, Biden has been handicapped by her selection of debate type; if by some odd chance he should acquire something by virtue of having a Dem pose the questions, it would serve to actually balance a debate stacked in the favor of Palin's limitations.

But, Democrats aren't like that. They're...I don't want to say idiots...but they are too nice. They are too honest. They have too much honor. They say things like, "You're absolutely right, John," instead of going for the jugular that they would have every right to go after. Ever the gentlemen; ever the nice guys. And we all know where nice guys finish when they go after pit bulls wearing lipstick.

Sorry stupid-whore, if this was any other way you would be up in arms...what would you have said if instead of her writing a love novel about Obama it was a book about McCain...there would have been outrage across the board and the media would have had a field day.

The thing that is hurting America are people like you and the media cramming biased crap down our throats for a red carpet to the chosen one. The media and the Obamamaniacs have been taking reports on Palins kids and rubbed them in the mud, his camp has taken McCain’s age and played messages on TV saying he has one foot in the grave......how could this not be considered unbiased and expect to have a fair election....

uhhh ... what about a republican approving a stupid looking ballot in florida 8 years ago? ... any conflict of interest there?

    1. EVERYONE HAS A BIAS - the issue is whether they have shown and continue to do the job they are tasked with ... she's moderated debates before and no one has ever complained ...

    2. while you decide to tune out the "media" for their "unfair" treatment of sarah palin - what you have missed is that you are actually supporting someone who doesn't have a clue ... she HAS NEVER shown that she possesses any knowledge for which she is supposed to know ... you're being sold a lemon by a charming used car saleswoman ...

Damn... you are delusional... A love novel??? Maybe if it really was an issues, the McCain camp would have objected to her being the moderator in the first place.

And besides some idiot bloggers, who is talking about Palin's kids? And is McCain's age supposed to be a secret? And since when is calling someone out of touch with technology (yes a stupid ad), "saying he as one foot in the grave?

I asked a few question knowing full well that you won't ever answer them like usual... You love the drive by talking points.

Speaking of 8 years ago...remember when the media was giving electoral votes to Gore while the election was going on...maybe in hopes to stop some people from voting for a losing candidate.

uhh - if anything that just encourages to opposition to come out and wasn't it fox that gave bush florida before the ballots were even counted?

She has never moderated a debate when one of the debaters she is too moderate had a book she just wrote about in front of her (that’s a tongue twister :)....her book comes out on the day of election....if Obama wins she is going to be rich

so ... you are saying she will be an unfair moderator then? ... the fact that the GOP have approved her means nothing ... the fact she's been objective before matters not? ... you already know she's gonna be unfair?

Sara Palin may not have a clue about some items but John McCain strives in these areas....this makes her a good Vice President choice for John McCain. She is an elected official that has not been corrupted by the government, who is not afraid to stand up to her own party and she knows energy....just because she is from Alaska does not mean she doesn’t have the same values as people ion the lower states. With this asset she and John McCain will hopefully start breaking up some fat cats in Washington on both sides of the party.

dude ... this isn't tag team presidency ... she is EXPECTED to know her shit ... and she doesn't ... she doesn't know energy either ... frig - she doesn't even know the issues alaskans face! ... read up on her - she doesn't know anything ...

and the notion that she is outside washington is absurd ... do you think the architects of the GOP quit after each election?? ... the same people that brought you bush/cheney now give you mccain/palin ... mccain was a maverick but he's sided with bush the last 5 years for one reason and one reason only ... so, he could get this nomination from the people that matter ... sarah palin is a puppet ... you put in ignorant people because they need to be told what to do (see GWB) ...

She just announced she was writing the book this week,

Wrong... in 10 seconds of searching yesterday, I found a press release from September 3rd that made mention about it (http://www.weta.org/about/press/releases/85243). And that is about some Washington Week live event, so I'm sure that that the publisher made some sort of announcement before that.

Your "source" is the National Review? Hilarious.

Here's what John McCain had to say about it.

Michelle Malkin?!?!? please... Maybe I can use a Cindy Sheehan blog for a source to back up my arguments.

And this whole "in the tank" talking point that the right wing pundits are using to describe every media outlet is a joke. Based on recent polls, the only people who appear to be "in the tank" for Obama are the voters.

edit: I actually just wasted a minute or two of my time actually reading the article, and the "proof" that she is giving that Ifill is "in the tank" is the title of her book and puff piece that she wrote on the Obama family? Really, that's it?

I don't buy the "liberal media" myth. Its a conservative talking point. All "Mainstream" media outlets are owned by multinational corporations with agendas.

It's bullshit. If you've bought into it, you're a dupe.

That said, McCain is too old too be president.

didn't we learn anything from Reagan?

Yeah, as a journalist I can tell you the whole "liberal media" thing is pretty much bullshit. Journalists may very well be more liberal than the average knuckleheaded ditto head, but the management who sign their paychecks sure as hell aren't. And at the end of the day, journos will do what the paycheck tells them to.

Come on, Reagan only began showing signs of pre-Alzheimers dementia during his second term :)

Reagan was only two years older at that time than McCain is now.

If McCain sees a 2nd term (and beleive me, that's a BIG if) he will be four years older than Reagan was.

    It's a lot like driving a 1965 cadillac in a Nascar race.

there should be a top end age limit.

edit: I realize now you may have been sarcastic. if so, my apologies.
