Funny that all of the most important speeches he's given have been written by him...

No, not funny - impressive. I'm not busting the guys balls. I'm not on either side of this. I just didn't know he wrote a fair number of his speeches. That's rare these days, that's for sure.

So he's written more speeches than legislation, too! :)

Yeah, well you also have to consider that Obama has been in the Senate for three years, two of which were spent with a Republican majority that would not even let legislation sponsored by Democrats reach the floor for a vote and, on the few occasions where Bill Frist granted such a luxury, Republicans shot down most Democratic initiatives with extreme prejudice.

In the 110th Congress, the Republican minority has blocked everything but the Senate chaplain's morning prayer and is on pace by a wide margin to filibuster more legislation than any Senate in U.S. history.

Pretty tough to "write legislation" that never sees the day of light/mainstream media in a situation like that.

i just heard that the media is being kept from asking palin questions following her speech. has anyone else heard anything about this or what their reasoning is??

i guess maybe they want to protect her from the big bad men with notebooks that might take issue with some of the trash talking she just did.

OK, on the way home on the radio the call ins were ALL just about how Palin nailed it. Well I'm going listen to this speech once again before giving up my $100.

I do know this she must have the record for threads started on this board. She's even blown Obama in that regard.

  • How many people do you think are already republicans that would've said she did an awesome job no matter how poorly she did? I realize this isn't the case for everybody, but what about the majority? Aren't these conventions just one be circle jerk anyway?

How are you planning to balance the budget, reel in spending, get rid of lobbyists, fight global warming, improve our lives? Just a bunch of smart ass cracks and no substance. NOT MY PRESIDENT (I truly hope).

I hope you're not saying this coming from the stand point of an Obama supporter.

Balanced budgets and reeling in spending?
On a socialist ticket like Obamas WITH war as well?

    And getting rid of lobbyists?
C'mon, Obama is on the take like a little bitch.

    As for global warming,
i don't know about you, but i don't think global taxes are the solution.
Especially when all they serve to accomplish is making the owners of the very same polluting corporations infinitely richer. (see here)

and as for "improving our lives",

    Socialist Bomb! Socialist Bomb!

    I love it! :D

I have so many conservative friends (not saying you are or you're not, because I don't know anything about you) and the mention of politics and within 30 seconds the word "socialist" or "socialism" comes up EVERY time. It's unreal.

It's the most fucked up comparison by definition, and I love every minute of it!

I have to watch the replay of this speech at home. I am wondering if it's as bad as what this chat is deeming or what. I want to be fair and see what she has to say. I just hope the media is saying she hit it out of the park if she really did or are they just grabbing at straws to make her better than what she is.

so I watched it and read the transcript. It was ok. It was not a homerun, it was not a grand slam. it was a regular speech.

what bothered me however is her comment on it's like a community organizer without responsibilities. Well from what I read about her, that's how she started on her path. Isn't that how most people get started in politics? They get involved with their community and then it moves into a selectman or a mayor or a governor or senator. Why would she discredit service like that? I actually found this offensive. It might be just me.

I agree with most of what she said in regards to McCain. He is the only one in the race that has actually fought for our country. He served his country for 22 years. I have a lot of respect for McCain in that area as I do for anyone that has served in the military. But where is it determined that victory is in sight for Iraq? Didn't Bush deem victory in Iraq 5 years ago? We are no closer now then we were then. What am I missing here?

I give her a B-/C+. It was so so.

I listened once again and i guess i was looking for a homerun with a thrill speech for this level. I didn't get that, however she didn't make any major flubs or even appeared nervous. Just a plain straightforward speech like a lecture back in college and ending could've been a bit more exciting.

I'm being generous here passed with a......B

Exactly, it's actually pretty symptomatic. In every other country in the world Obama would be considered center-right (that leaves you to guess where McCain is). What is this obsession with socialism? Obviously you don't want governmental intrusion in your life but as Bush showed it, this isn't a socialist prerogative.

Gulliani and Palin pounced on Obama's experience by stating that he has no executive experience. What executive experience does John McCain have? By this standard Palin is the most experienced because she was a mayor and currently a governor. Do the Republicans honestly want to go down this road? Two of our greatest Presidents, Lincoln and FDR had about the same experience as Barack Obama and they were our commander and chief during our toughest times. I say bring it on!!

We need more then experience. This country is lacking competence.
