Generally, these things tend to go by party lines.
If you are generally a Democrat, obviously you thought the speech sucked.
If you are generally a Republican, you are now ready to move to Alaska should the whole "McCain-for-president" thing not work out.
As a guy who is far closer to the McCain side of the ledger than the Obama side of the ledger, I thought the Palin speech was pretty much a grand slam.
From a purely political perspective, it accomplished most everything it needed to. This little ol' gal from Alaska kicking The One in the ass.
I wouldn't expect in Barry fans to think it was any good, just like I didn't think the Hillary speech from last week that everyone thought was so grand was any good.
see now, at least someone like you can admit something.
I sit back and watch my dad and some friends cheer on republicans and I say, "meh"
and then I sit back and watch some other friends and musical idols cheer for Obama and I still say, "meh"
i think, " yea this speech is good, but where is it coming from?"
I guess in general I get turned off by politics by their own war within themselves....
Leiberman's speech was good two nights ago, and look at him.. he changed to independant, and still won his campaign.

She nailed it tonight. Nailed. It. Hard. Obama/Biden oficially have a problem.
I'm still not clear about what exactly she nailed. Her speech was reactionary, and the more reactionary speeches the Republicans make the more trouble they'll be in.

kevinbeetle: "Yes. When her career washes up and her and Gavin move to Galveston, you will meet her at Hot Topic shopping for a Japanese cheerleader outfit.

I think she didn't a pretty good job of laying out the Republican vision of what an Obama regime might look like, and how McCain might contrast that.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
This was Palin's coming out party, nothing more, nothing less, and she absolutely nailed it. What more do I know about her now? She didn't crack, whatsoever, under the immense pressure she had to of felt tonight. That's a good sign.
In any case - I'm very much looking forward to a Biden/Palin debate. Should make for some must see TV.
Bravo to Palin tonight. She did what she had to, and I feel she did it with style.
I think she didn't a pretty good job of laying out the Republican vision of what an Obama regime might look like, and how McCain might contrast that.
It was still too reactionary. The Republicans have to stop playing defense, and start playing offense.

It was no more reactionary than any other Republican or Democratic speech. Republicans don't have the market on such speeches.
She was great tonight. She showed her ass in a good way. Simple as that.
We've no idea how this will play out come Nov 4th, but tonight belonged to her. She simply nailed the speech and delivering it. It's not rocket surgery.
Every politician "reads from a card" and doesn't get in to specifics, so I'm not sure what your point is there.
The chick has balls. That's my point, even though it sounds funny.
I agree, she came off tough ... for their supporters, she killed it.
but I think overall ... the Republicans might have been a little too tough on the media .... they didn't win any favors, and they (the media) will be like bloodhounds on these two even moreso going forward.

I'm glad they didn't pander to the media. Makes me respect their ticket way more.
FWIW, I'm a registered Independent and have no idea who I'm voting for.
I thought it was a very good speech that accomplished a lot ... and rallied that crowd .. no doubt ...
but, can you tell me what she did that showed you she was ready for the VP role?
she read a speech that was prepared for her ...
Well I'm sure the Democrat's speeches were written for them also so back at you on that comment.
Also whoever wrote her speech should get a raise. lol
This being her first time speaking to the country/world. She didn't skip a beat and just said everything right. She stood up there and just seemed to nail it. She's new and were still learning about her. But not a bad job for her first major appearance.
Supposedly he wrote his DNC speech. I did hear that. But to say he "writes his speeches" just isn't true.
He wrote the DNC speech in '04, he wrote the Reverand Wright speech, he wrote the DNC '08 speech, and he participates in, contributes to, and has the final say in any other speech he gives.
Funny that all of the most important speeches he's given have been written by him...

Hell, if she were a Democrat, that would qualify her to be president of the United States ...
People really need to get off this qualification thing ... if Barack is qualified, then so is Palin.

"Palin showed she is ready to be VP and is up for the task. "
I am simply asking what in the last hour "showed she was ready" to be VP ...

Well she didn't fall flat on her face in the speech like Dan Quayle and he was a VP.
Sadly with Quayle and Cheyney the GOP has set the bar pretty low on VP qualifications lately.

She read from a card and didn't get into specifics.
Now I understand that talking in front of people can be scary, but this speech was a joke.
And how many politicians still write their own speeches?
I'm not saying she swayed me to vote for her and McCain, but I thought this speech will go over much better nationally than Biden's did last week.
