Sarah Palin's Very Bad Interview

  • Back to the topic here, I am also very surprised she has done so poorly on these interviews. These were supposed to be the semi-scripted softball interviews. They're borderline fluff-pieces, with them walking around, etc. And even so, Palin comes across as completely terrified, rigid and unable to think on her toes.

I know she can do better than she has, but my god, it's really hard to watch.

Just take a look at this board...how many threads about the old white guy VP candidate for the Dems?

Who in the media can evern remember that old white guys VP candidate for the Dems name?

  • Her ignorance of topics would be funny if not for the fact that she might be president in the future. Fucking scary.
  • A manager of a *busy* McDonald's. You forgot the "busy". :D

You also forgot to say yes or no?

I don't think anyone hates her... I'm just in disbelief at how she got to where she is today, and even in more disbelief with how unprepared that she still is.

That's EXACTLY what it is. We've all been there. For me, it was grad school level political philosophy, which I took as an undergrad. It was all socratic method type learning, and I had no clue, so I just regurgitated off point analyses. Same exact thing as Palin in these interviews.

    I got a C+, by the way.

Hey Cincy, I'm proud of you for coming on here and still defending her. It's gotta be tough. But seriously though? She could end up being President???!!!

    I agree. It's a stunner, for sure.

I don't hate her. On the contrary, I've gone from extreme skeptic to almost sympathetic towards her. I *almost* hope she'll do ok in the VP debate now, lol.

Hey, maybe this is all part of their strategy!

It's not hate, it's amazement at how/why this woman was chosen as VP when she obviously is not up for the task. McCain could have/should have chosen someone with basic knowledge of the world and events and at least experience at memorizing the talking points at a minimum. Kay Bailey Hutchinson would have been a wiser choice if he wanted to pull the woman vote, at least she is competent although i disagree with her on most issues as I do palin (even though i doubt she even has a personal point of view anymore).

Hey, I prefer governor's as presidents because they have executive expeirence and ar enot necessarily in-bed with washington the way ALL the Senators are. So, I had some hope when she was selected. Her initial appearance was terrific.

The fact that she hasn't been good off-the-cuff or even in these easy interviews is disturbing to me as well. Not because I think she'd kill the country necessarily, but she isn't fulfilling the potential I was hoping for.

I was leaning Obama...then leaning McCain after the Palin selection for numerous reasons...I'm back to leaning Obama and even further in that direction today.

I do think people are extremely hard on her and ahte her to the core...and for what? Because she accepted the nomination?

I'm in disbelief regarding the preparation as I mentioned.

It reminds me of a prof or teacher who has no clue what they are teaching. If they try and fake it, all the students see right through it. Then The students lose all respect. But if the teacher admits they don't understand the curriculum and offers to learn together as we take the course, then the students have great respect.

If Palin and the campaign would be more upfront and honest, they may be better served.

There's a hate card? Clearly I haven;t been watching enough of your liberal media. ;)

I think you should read all my posts in the thread...I'm shocked at her lack of preparation...but I'd stick to my hate comment. Hey, it's ok, I disagree with hating her, but I literally get sick when I think about Hillary & Bill Clinton....Pelosi....Biden....Kerry....Gore....and many others....I hate at least 50% of them. ;)

I really disagree people "hate" her. If this woman were anything other than the VP nominee, she'd be very well liked by most people. 6 months ago, if you had shown me a documentary about Palin, I would have disagreed with her on many points, but I would have thought to myself "There is a pleasant woman."

People are reacting this way because the things that come out of her mouth, and the lack of qualificatons she has truly are very shocking to many people.

In talking with some folks about Palin's interviews, many have said the feel sorry for her...I kinda do to...clearly she had no idea what she was taking on....I can't wait for this whole circus to be over....

for the record, I agree with your "get sick" list....they make me sick, too...

i can see the future ...

i'll be on this board years from now arguing with cincy - and i'm gonna bust out the "you actually defended palin as a candidate" and you will be like "what was i thinking?" ...

seriously, how is this even a discussion at this point?? ...

here's a freebie for you cincy: You cannot prepare for questions of which you do not know the answer to ... I'll give you one day to prepare for two questions on the history of russian poetry - it won't matter how long you study - you're still gonna look clueless because it takes more time to learn that than a day ...

same goes for her - they are trying to teach her what many have educated themselves over many years in the span of weeks ...
  • I'm in disbelief regarding the preparation as I mentioned.

For me she is starting to have that William Hung appeal. Remember that guy from American Idol who was terrible and somehow got famous for it. I actually look forward to seeing more Palin interviews and the debate for the entertainment value.

This is from left radio host Ed Schultz, so keep that in mind as far as it's accuracy, but this wouldn't surprise me.

McCain Camp insiders say Palin "clueless"
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people
are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held
a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

I don't hate her. I feel sorry for her, she's in way over her head. She didn't ask to run for VP, who were the knuckleheads who put her in this position? And the thought of her being in the White House - too horrifying. (The Matt Taibbi piece about her in the new Rolling Stone is scary as hell, by the way.)

In terms of hate - I'd put Rove and Cheney up there for what they've done to our country.
  • I do think people are extremely hard on her and ahte her to the core...and for what? Because she accepted the nomination?

I think the hate is misguided. As a woman, I'll admit that I am disgusted by some of her policies concerning women's issues, for example. And I'll admit that I'm a bit resentful that this particular woman could be the one to "shatter that glass ceiling", in part, based on some of those policies.

But I don't hate her for being in this position. I think it was poor judgment for her to accept the nomination, but even worse for McCain to have offered it to her. He was the one who made a very irresponsible choice; I believe she, on the other hand thinks "what the hell, I might as well give it a shot!" My husband put it like this: it's like when you see a job that you know you aren't qualified for, but apply to it anyway. You may realize, once you get into the interview, that you are way out of your league...but there's no reason not to try. (Of course, in this case, whether or not she is being irresponsible by trying is debatable, since there is obviously more at stake here.)

Ultimately, I am just stunned that McCain would be so irresponsible. I lost a lot of respect for him when he chose her.

It's quite amazing how fixated we can become on a word. Whatever, it depends on what the definition of "hate" and what the definition of "is" is for that matter. ;)

you can't prepare for questions you do not know the answers to ... that's the whole point ... it's one thing to stumble in an interview but still know what you're talking about ... but she has no answers cuz she doesn't know ... that's the point ...

GWB is a perfect example of what you are clinging to ... governor with experience ... and we all know what that means ...

oh ... and don't be fooled folks ... she was not picked by mccain ... the republican party is controlled by people who serve their agendas ... it doesn't change with administrations ... they put GWB in office so this is another "easily" controlled puppet pick ... she could be the stupidest person in the world but in the end - it doesn't really matter because there will still be people voting GOP and the election will always be winnable because of the electorate ...
