Threads in which everyone behaves like an adult NEVER get locked. I've not once seen it happen. You can search through the history and find vigorous, heated debates that go on for days and aren't locked. This is the band's official site and the content reflects on them. If they don't want to be associated with racism, sexism, childish name-calling and the like, that's their privilege. If you'd like to start a board of your own that reflects only on you and have it be a total free-for-all, I'm sure you'd find plenty of willing participants.

you could just do what I do and skip posts with the name calling and whatever else. It's not like we are forced to read them or get involved. well it can be hard to avoid them right when they start posting in a thread that has a good flow going.

Anyway I just think it's a waste of time to get so worried about the way others choose to behave. Let people be insercure or whatever else they are,I dunno, just be cool and things work out quite well. hmmm then again things don't always work out well but I guess that's just life. Always something else.

    Post on exodus.

If I had the time to do it, id actually show you just how wrong you are. Ive seen many threads locked because the people who run this board disagree with the content. Almost every thread I have seen on here at some level has some degree of childishness and name calling and profanity. Its epidemic on this board. If you need me to give you examples I will. But youre way off.

Further, isn't it presumptive of you to think that just because you are on this board that the band agrees with your brand of political rhetoric whatever that may be? A little self important aren't we? All we know about the band's politics is that one member of the band has a thing for George Bush. Hell McCready is a fucking Republican. So don't preach to me about the band's politics. You don't have the first clue about that. What we do know about are the moderators politics which is far different from the five members of Pearl Jam who I am sure do not all agree on politics and I would bet some of them would just assume the band focus on making music and leaving the politics the fuck out of it.
  • By way of example, that thread I started was meant to illustrate a point about this board.....I think it served it's purpose.

I don't think it has anything to do with political rhetoric. There are conservatives here who have never been banned, and liberals who have been banned multiple times.

Personally, I don't concern myself much with how others behave because that's Kat's job, not mine, and she's doing just fine.

McCready's a republican, huh? I suppose he was just one of the millions of republicans that donated to Howard Dean's campaign ... I know how the republicans love Howard!

He WAS a republican....That wasn't the point. You were waxing on about your direct knowledge of the band's politics and the reality is that you don't know. And besides. Who cares? This band has somehow become a lightening rod for the disgruntled and disaffected which I find sad. It used to be fun round here.

I didn't say a damn thing about the band's politics. I said that when threads turn hateful (racism, name-calling, etc.), that's when they get locked. That's not politics, that's wanting a civilized exchange of ideas.

civilized exchanges of ideas are few and very far between in this forum.

How ironic. Just as I was just about to post this the discussion thread is closed.

    THE FIRST FUCKING AMENDMENT!!!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

    Since when is MT Congress?

People here must be doing something right when someone who says as many stupid things as I do has never been banned or had a thread locked :)
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

i think the band's politics have been pretty obvious since ten, moreso with the last 2 albums, but they have always been political. vote for change tour was a pretty public acknowledgement that they are definitely not going to be voting republican. look at rock the vote and lollapalooza in '92. very anti bush the first.

in case you haven't noticed the band has always appealed to the disgruntled and disaffected.

you know just because you have the right to say it that doesn't mean it's right to say it.

You have a right to be offended by what someone says. You, however, do not have a right to not be offended.

I've always liked that one ;)

Were you even at Lollapalooza 1? Politics? Give me a break. Everyone was way too fucked up too care about politics and Iraq 1 was quite popular at the time actually. You must have been at a different show. Because back in 92 it was about the music.

It's really too bad, because I really love this band and have been on this board since it's inception and to see it change and become about this radical political crap instead of the music is just too bad. Ya know I went years without even looking at this Moving Train thing and then stumbled in. Wish I wouldn't have. Makes me kinda sad there are the kinds of people the band has attracted now.

If you are looking for some good intelligent music talk, join the Who's board. It's a welcome relief and totally apolitical....

You can always limit yourself to only posting on The Porch, no one is forcing you to come on the Moving Train. I mean for someone who dislikes the atmosphere here so much you spend an awfull lot of time here. I also don't see how you could have been on this board since it's inception with a join date of only a week ago.

I was at Lollapalooza in '92 - fourth row center and stone cold sober. Yeah, there was a bit of politics. No, Eddie didn't write "Pro-Choice" down his arm like he did on national television in '92; but definitely some liberalism floating around. Hell, that was an election year - ya think there wasn't?

Edit: Oh, and for the record, that was Lollapalooza 2.
