So where does Maragret Thatcher the Faulklands war and iron fist ruling of Nth Ireland figure in all of this. Just curious as to how this would be explained without reverting to "She was really a man"

Well this board is never short of feminist propaganda.

Put Ann Coulter in office and find out what happens.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

she was a woman filling a traditional male role.
as for northern ireland, she was merely following the oppressive rule perpetuated by men. invading the islas malvinas, twas a group decision. her advisors were men. she went with the information she had(how ever wrong that was). the imperialist urge is strong at that level. but i know what youre getting out. i could point out golda meir as an example as well.

and i think thatcher really was a man. ;):p

As if Thatcher listen to anyone. She was a one woman show. If this was a gender issue she would of brought about change not tighten her grip on these nations.

I'd go with the man theory :D:p

but tis not a gender issue. how can it be when women fill traditional male roles. the leader of a country can not have a gender. they must lead, not menstruate. plus i think gender is a social construct.

This really wasn't supposed to become a debate on gender. I got the Blix quote from one of the pages on the site dedicated to ridding the world of nuclear proliferation. It is one small part of the site, and I think a valid, important observation.

Now, if everyone could stop focusing on their groin area and talk about nukes...

oh A'man we hold power without the need for a penis. we're just waiting for all you men to totally screw yourselves(after you get over the homoerotic connotations of that) so we can wipe your brow, suture your wounds and show you how it should be done. plus we gave birth to you all. can't get much more powerful than giving life. :p

patriarchy has been in place since time immemorium. it'll take a bit of time to change such entrenched hegemony. they don't call it history for no reason. :)
