I don't feel like he meant it as bad as it came across. But he needs to think more before he speaks. God forbid he becomes President and says such offensive things to other world leaders. I'm no McCain fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the old guy keeps fucking up so much that I'm almost starting to feel sorry for him.
If Obama maintains a big lead in the polls come election day only to lose, it be b/c he is a black man in a racist country.
so you live your life by what polls say? you actually believe in polls that much?
and there it is. people are already making the excuse of "the country is racist, that's why he didn't win!" yup, that can be the only possible reason obama would lose. that or the GOP rigged the voting machines, right?

how about when he walked right in front of the camera at the end of the debate, and had to be asked to move by Brokaw. Grampa Simpson is running for President.

You know, I didn't think it was so much a racial statement or a derogatory comment--I thought if anything it was a condescending remark (I know, McCain...condescending...you're shocked) more than anything else. Something that typifies the way that he either views Obama, wants his constituents to, or both.
Either way, the key goal of this debate seemed to have been (or should have been) to win over moderate and undecided voters. Saying, "that one," in the manner he did, was clearly not the best strategy for doing so.
this is what i thought. "saying that one, not this one" meaning candidate.
still fucked up though.
Peace, Love.

McCAIN is an embarrasesment to this presidential race f'n weirdo just like that panel of fools in ohio holy shit what a bunch of idiots ....how can anyone vote for this nut job is beyond me ..
It's not like he said "that black one" and pointed.

I do however think that McCain really hates Obama, not really because of race. But who knows, what we do know is McCain has a poor voting record, has bad policies and would probably make a worse leader than Bush.
No but I believe that it just further illustrates what a condecending bitter little pig John McCain is. He's an absolute fool if he thinks that acting in this manner is appropriate of a candidate for Presidencey of the United States. McCain's behaviour is foul and shows neither the respect or class required of his position.
one thing that's evident, McCain just does not like Obama ... he never looks him in the eye ... when they shake hands, you can see Obama saying "good luck John" or "Nice Job John" ... and McCain is silent ... it REALLY gives the appearance that McCain does not think Obama is his equal, which, again, is NOT a sure sign of racism, but, it comes off, sooooo bad.
Obama is certainly playing the 'respect' card really really well in this campaign.. see also when it came to Palin and her daughter. As regards foreign policy, this is one of the best things to have. He is a true diplomat... and people will have mutual respect for him. I see McCain as similar to Bush in that nobody outside of the states will have any respect for him.

I don't think the poster was making early excuses for an Obama loss.
I do feel that the polls are useless in this race, and it's probably closer than the polls indicate.
My reasoning is this: Many closet-racists are probably saying in public that they'll vote for Obama.....but when they are behind the curtain casting their vote.....they might have a hard time voting for a black man.
This is how my old man used to call out the farm help.
The farm help would gather at the barn in the morning for their instructions and the white help was always called by name and the black workers "that one"
"Floyd, set up the pivot irrigation on the corn today and take..... uh....that one and that one with you"
Let me state that I do not like McCain much, but This is ridiculous. He's 72. He has a lot of weird quips. He says a lot of things my Grandfather says. In fact, my Grandfather used to say "that one" about me all the time. Now, in these debates, he should have a little more respect, but I think he is just trying to sound like a regular guy. it's certainly not racist in my opinion.
Yeah you're right... We're reading way too much into McCain's character...
Gooks, KGB, not wanting to establish communication with other countries, that one...
None of these issues should concern us about how we believe McCain will deal with others...
Afterall he's the Maverick!
I did not mention gooks, KGB, or attempts to communicate with other nations... so your assumption that I believe that all these matters are irrelevant is simply wrong.
We are talking about "that one". I think the use of "that one" is not a big deal. It may or may not have been racist. You don't know, no one does. It could have been an honest mistake. A choice of words that came out wrong. I think most of us already know who McCain is and what he stands for.
McCain has said worse things than "that one", things that are not ambiguous, things that cannot be considered honest mistakes.
We all know the example of the "gooks" (at least you do):
"I hate the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live."
When I read that - ages ago - I was convinced that this man would make a horrible president. This statement is racist. It's hard to call this an honest mistake. I believe he also said that no punishment is too cruel for the enemies of the US. I could cite many examples, I could have done this months ago.
Now you're making a huge deal out of McCain calling Obama "that one". I'm not saying it's wrong or right. To me it appeared to be a bad choice of words, with no intention to insult and without a racist slant.
Either way, the economy is going to shit, Iceland would have been thoroughly fucked if it weren't for Russia. Russia might put a "defense shield" in Iceland. People are killing themselves, people are losing homes and jobs...
But you know, it's so important, at this stage, to read into McCain character. Who would've known McCain might be a racist? I can't believe he almost made it through the entire campaign hiding his racism. Luckily, people like you analyze his every word. Thank you.

Think about the world in which your grandfather grew up in.... a segregated world, so racist comments fly off the cuff w/o the brain engaging. I'm sure he say 'cotton pickin hands' too and doesn't think about the origin of such phrases.
It's a different world now, and McCain should know that, but some things are so ingrained that in the heat of the moment, there is no forethought.
Imagine the outcry from Fox/Rush/Hannity if it was Biden or Obama that referred to McCain or Palin like that? It's be pandemonium today.
This is EXACTLY how I thought about the "that one" incident. At best, McCain was trying to be folksy and he failed.
Whenever McCain says something dumb, I always think about how it would look if Obama said it and vice/versa.
Today, I imagine that if Obama had referred to McCain as "that one", there would be outrage. I imagine that the outrage would also be racist in nature because the black guy didn't give the white guy proper respect. The media wouldn't come right out and say it was reverse racism, but they would be saying that it was "disrespectful" that Obama didn't use McCain's name.
so you live your life by what polls say? you actually believe in polls that much?
and there it is. people are already making the excuse of "the country is racist, that's why he didn't win!" yup, that can be the only possible reason obama would lose. that or the GOP rigged the voting machines, right?
Obama has a solid lead right now and there is no denying it. Analysts are saying it, the media is saying it and the same goes for the polls.
My point is, if he maintains this solid lead come election day only to lose you seriously have to look at the race card. I guarentee this is in the back of the minds of many republicans (especially in Missouri) who want change but question if they ready for a black president.
I could never use this argument in my country as we are historically not deep rooted in racisim.
Prove me wrong?
.
on a side note: Palin is a fucking hatemonger!! I can't believe the knives she is throwing at her rallies. Stiring up an angry mob of right wing rednecks screaming "Kill him" and "Terrorist".

That Gasbag Redneck Waterhead Rush Limbaugh just said the same exact shit on his show today; you obviously were listening.
Must be the BIG talking point of the day for The Conservative Right; noticably avoiding any discussion on the debate cause Johnny got his ass handed to him...but I digress.
Anyways...This is just more idiotic smoke and mirrors retoric spewing from the mouths of Conservative America who's orgy in Washington is thankfully coming to an end.
Besides...Nobody is making excuses for Obama. There's no need to make excuses. It's the Republican's that are making exuses...scratching their heads wondering "WHY" "HOW"
It's their horse that is lagging behind in the race; not the Democrats
Secondly...don't even bring up the voting machines. They may not have been rigged but they sure as fuck weren't working in 2000. This fact has been proven over and over and over again; Diebold has said as much
And For the Record...it still is a sore spot for Democrats...and rightfully so...especially in light of the disasterous administration that resulted from those faulty machines.
Imagine the outcry from Fox/Rush/Hannity if it was Biden or Obama that referred to McCain or Palin like that? It's be pandemonium today.
that's what drives me nuts about those shitheads. the hypocrisy. imagine if Obama had "suspended his campaign" and threatened to no-show the debate. They would be calling him a coward, and a grandstander. Mccain does it, and he's a hero. He's putting the country first. In Al Franken's books, he dismantles hannity, exposes his hypocrisy. Colbert and Jon Stewart also have rolled tape, exposing Hannity (and many other republican gasbags) for saying one thing one day, and exactly the opposite just days, or even hours and sometimes minutes, later

lol, so because rush said something a day after i said it, i was listening to his show? well, obviously you listen if you know he said it. as for me listening to him.....no, doesn't happen. i get my news from the papers and that's it. nice try, though. keep the hate and assumptions coming.
Seemed to me like he just forgot his name. It's the kind of phrase someone uses when they just slip up a little. I really don't see what the big freakin deal is.
I mean if you guys really can't find anything else wrong with what McCain said that's pretty sad.
I know someone who is the most diehard Clinton fan I know, and he said today that he actually likes McCain's healthcare plan more than Obama's. It was his plan that was actually "more revolutionary," in his opinion. He has a college degree in Classical Literature (Latin & Greek) as well as one in Psychology. This is not an uninformed man.
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

I'm sure your friend is quite well-informed about literature and psychology, but how informed is he really about McCain's and Obama's healthcare plans? If by "more revolutionary" he means when millions more people lose their healthcare they might be inspired to rise up against the McCain administration, I guess he's got a point.
First debate; McCain NEVER looked at Obama during the debate
Second debate: The comment *That One*
Third debate; I will expect some other fireworks in a negative way towards Obama
There we may see what desparate messures will be taken.
Peace
Jesus, what is the big deal?? This discussion is pathetic.

Are you kidding me with all going on in the country all you have to harp on about is he said "that one". Yeah I know I support McCain, but this is completely ridiculous. Would it have been better if he said you will never guess who voted for this that one and who voted against it this one? That is where I feel he was getting at. If he said that boy maybe I would feel there was some racism. How sensative is americans when the phrase of that one is considered racist. I have heard black people use hell of a lot more negative words towards each other.
