WTF?

are you supporting McCain or just being a fat assed Troll?

...or are you living in some fantasy land where Nader, Paul, or whoever are viable candidates.

What are your solutions?

All I read here is pissing and moaning and no real intelligence beyond the given circumstances.

The guy that said he was going to start destroying the interstates has at least fronted a better solution than any of you.

  • Agreed.

I'm really losing a lot of respect for people here who used to post informative and well sourced political arguments, because they seem to be turning to the very types of propaganda that they would otherwise deride. I'm certainly not believing that Obama is some great option, but I think some people need to look at the reality here.

I'm all for posts in support of alternate candidates and ways of drumming up support, but some of the boderline racist, hateful things I've seen here have really depressed me. Surely the left is above that...

Why do they have to be "viable"? Why can't their virtues be an example for the "viable" but unprincipled candidates to use as examples? I don't support McCain or Obama. I'll be writing in my choice. Sorry if principle and conscience get in the way of trying to pick the winner correctly. Since I support neither McCain nor Obama, why would have have me vote for one of them?

Yes Bingo. Can't handle it now....can you imagine when he becomes president?

    Ouch...psychiatric ward or what?

unorthodox techniques used to satisfy some already suspected curiosities is how I best describe it.

Based on what? I'm not even an Obama supporter, but it's like this place has gone totally mad. It's embarrassing.

The US is in a bad way... the reality come November is Obama or McCain. Now, everyone can be as up in arms as they want about this, but it does not change the reality. No way will enough voters in the US even consider voting for a third party candidate. Yes, that sucks, but that is still the truth.

Does that mean people have to give up their ideals and get behind someone they truly don't support? Stop pointing out the flaws of the "viable" candidates, and give them a free pass to election?

No, be as idealistic as you want, but be aware of the reality and ffs don't lower yourself to propaganda levels. What point would that serve other than to make oneself look foolish and just possibly racist?

based on the premise that someone feels this thread is necessary and that you have started to lose respect for those who you used to ...

your particular truth is what makes the shitty aspect of this election continue

the only reality that is of any concern is whether you feel there is actual democracy in the states or not ...

I don't think I've seen anyone being particularly racist around here... I certainly haven't. The most racist thing I've seen is people trumpeting Obama's race as a valid reason to vote for him.

And I think a lot of people are aware of the reality that the two-party system is pretty much broken right now. Both sides are bought and paid for... so people look elsewhere for a solution.

I'll think about that when the government is screwing me over next.....right about 1 second ago, and a few seconds from now...and a few more seconds later after that...and so on...etc..

Maybe I'll keep pretending it isn;t happening, cross my fingers really hard and scream HOPE at the top of my lungs while bowing to a picture of Obama.

    who knows...it could work....

I never tried ignoring policies altogether, and relying on blind hope. who knows....maybe 2008 is a miracle year.

Now that is a good analogy.

It's funny, when it comes to "Obama bashing" as you people call it, it's just usually people disagreeing and debating his policies.

When it comes to Nader, however, it's just people saying stupid things like "he'll never become president, not even of his knitting club" and "Nader is just an old idiot" or some other stupid shit.

    well said...

While I can be lumped into the Obama supporter category, I support anyone voting for whomever they'd like...be it the Great Pumpkin, Barr, Nader, and so on...

I do find it interesting that many of the threads about Obama are personal attacks vs. content...

I'm looking for some feedback in this thread...

It's not about what you in the minority feel, I agree with what you're saying, but you know damn well that 2008 will not be a miracle year, which means the people of the US will vote for more of the same, one way or another.

It's lovely to dream that every US citizen will suddenly wake up and vote out the 2 party system, but just be aware of the fact it's a dream and no more.

For any 3rd party candidate to have a chance, there will have to be a real movement that finds ways to gather interest and headlines without having the ridiculous amounts of funds that the Reps & Dems have to their disposal. And that certainly is not going to happen in 2008. Nader throwing his hat in 10 months before the election is not the way to do it.

Any third party candidate who wants a chance to crack this open needs to start now. For 2012.

Going on about how awful Obama is, whether true or not matters none at all. I'd never say to vote for someone you don't believe in. But come Novembers about 250 million Americans will.

Agreed but how else will people realize something is up unless people speak out about it?

If the politically casual are continually pacified, and nobody speaks out, nothing is accomplished in my books. Something has to be shaken up. McCain winning might shake some people up, Obama having a large contingency of disgruntled voters could shake some people up. Just playing along is a bad idea in my book regardless.

trolling? Is that what debating and reporting news is these days?

No one is bashing McCain because there is no need to. McCain is terrible as is, and most people already know that on this forum... it's a pointless topic. Do you want us to make a thread saying "Bush is terrible"? why would anyone waste their time doing that?

meanwhile, there are plenty of people supporting Obama simply because he's the "lesser of 2 evils"... which calls for actual debates and discussion. don't like it? well, it doesn't really matter.

and the reason why people revisit Obama so often is that not only do many arguments get ignored by Obama supporters (especially his blind support of Israel), but because recently there has been lots of things going on in his campaign... lots of "compromise." ;)

If after 8 years of Bush raping his own country and the rest of the world like the drunken cowboy he is, isn't enough to get Americans to realise things are very very fucked, you posting about cereal boxes isn't gonna do the trick.

It's too late to shake anything up for 2008. I'm dead serious when I say look to 2012. The kind of change you want, I want, and the US needs is going to take a multi-year movement to have any chance of succeeding.

Where did I say you should vote for Obama? And I never said not to debate his policies, but the ridiculous things I've seen here lately, like the cereal box thread and the ones with all those anti-Obama posters (which is no more than propaganda) doesn't further anything and it embarrasses me as an American that people, who seem to want change from the godawful mess the US government is, are stooping to such levels.

I have to agree with the OP. In fact, while I come here often wanting to express my opinion, I am completely turned off by the way that folks are not just expressing their opinion or trying to have a conversation, but bashing folks for them…so I very rarely post.

And it is not only happening here. When our extended family sits down to a meal and tries to have a political discussion, it inevitably turns nasty. I often hear the evangelical side of our family repeating the rhetoric that comes from the bush administration (not just this year, but for the last 7 or so years.) When trying to explain that Iraq and 9/11 had nothing to do with one another - it was like "talk to the hand". It's the "you're with us or against us" attitude that is completely polarizing the nation. It’s no wonder that nothing can get done.

When can we have a real conversation? Just sad.

    OK - bash away...
