I'm sure you're a little sick of the words global warming, but it's real and undeniable. You can see it, feel it. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing. It might be a total waste of energy and it may come out lame time but I'm gonna write it anyway. It's not me here on stake...

If the warming continues, we can expect catastrophic consequences.
Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years -- to 300,000 people a year.Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense. Droughts and wildfires will occur more often. The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.
More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050.

The real shame is, that we could do better but instead we are making it worse. We have a moral obligation to do better, to fix what we can. Small changes to your daily routine can add up to big differences in helping to stop global warming. Here is something you can do: http://www.climatecrisis.net/pdf/10things.pdf

According to some scientists we've got 10 years time.

Who, if not we? When if not know? WHAT will you tell your children or grandchildren when they ask you WHY haven't you done something when you could. When it wasn't too late...Don't be such asses. How shallow can we be?

USA sign the freakin' Kyoto, why doesn't it happen?!?All for control and oil, fuck that, I really don't get it. Well even Kyoto isn't enough any more. We must do better.
People press on your governments. We are in a position to save it. We've got technics, materials and knowledge to stop global warming.

I really care. I wish everyone would. We leave on such a beautiful planet. We took so many rights that we shouldnt.

Uh..just do something..recycle, turn off your devices, use public transport, I don't freakin' care just act responsible...IT's EVOLUTION BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot ...what is really unfair is that countries in development (whole Africa, south Asia..etc) will suffer the most (higher temperatures, droughts, diseases..), as if they hadn't have enough problems now. And they are the innocent ones.

  • once again, global warming may exist, but we have no control over it! Scientists get their grants from governments and foundations set up so that rich people can get tax breaks. These are the same people who control foreign policies. Global warming is being used as a means of establishing laws that govern over the entire planet. a so called "new world order" is trying to establish itself. This is not new, it has been talked about for years. But now they are putting their plan into action. Think of how little a voice you have on federal issues in your country. now think about how even smaller a voice you will have if the world get grouped together in 3 seperate states. Soon we will go from living in present day to living in 1984, and the global warming myth will be the key to this happening. (that and "terrorism")
  • Could you make "catastrophic consequences" a little bolder? And bigger? And maybe have it blink a little? And how about putting some sound over that post...maybe some women and children screaming in agony?

    South East is not South...
    And think of Africa.

Hankthelank...on terrorism I support your oppinion but there has been a study and not ONE serious scientist believes that global warming is a myth. If you have troubles with the agenda then don't think of it so political...think of forrests that are being choped down and fight against that. It is very simple actually.

I hate to say it, but I doubt that there are going to be enough people in general willing to make a little change to actually cause a big change............maybe I need to be more optimistic.

I'm not attacking you. You're trying to spread a good message -- consume responsibly. Unfortunately, you've wrapped it in fear.

    Yeah, I fear that too.
But it has happened in the past - fights against corporations have been really sucessfull, in some parts of the world that has made a big difference (Naomi Klein - No Logo it's a good book proving that...and also Eddie Vedder is mentioned in it, if that's what'll make you read the book).

I think that people are not aware that power really lies in them. We have it. There are this goverments and states and orders and we see them too much as an solid authority. If we all pushed some buttons at the same time...we'd see that we outnumber elites.
Sounds like an illusion but I believe that. Well, what else am I left with...the world is a mess, at least I can have faith. At least I can try.

NO! The point was trying to get someone to do something. There is no panic, just concern...

I completely agree with what you are saying re: the panic. I see that the poster is weaving their own fear within their words, whether inadvertently or not. And I also think that it is as fair and as valid an approach as the one you suggest, which is more like what your own approach would be.

It may not be the most balanced and grounded approach, and yet it certainly speaks for the original poster who obviously holds grave concerns.

I'm going to have to disagree with your comment that all scientists agree about human produced global warming. There is so much debate over the various "facts" about global warming that it is impossible to say that there is professional concessus.

Science has shown us that cycles in nature such as medieval warm period, occur. that between the 1940's-80's the earths average temperature droped while CO2 emmissions increased.

Do I think we should consume less? Of course. But this should not be done restricting human life, which is where we are heading.
  • StereotypeStereotype Maribor, Slovenia Posts: 885
Katrina was a hurricane, correct, but do you think it's coincidental that hurricanes are increasing, it was the first time last year that there was one on the south side of the earth. All the things I already wrote in the opening post are consiquences of our involvment in the nature...

Ok, I can give you a point about concessus. You could be right but that doesn't make it better, does it? I've been on a lecture where there was a complete analyse of articles written about global warming and not one article written in academic journals was denying that the global warming is a fact. Situation was different in magazines and journals of other types but lets think who could know better...I wish I could point you to a source but I don't have it, and I doubt analyses like that are on the internet.

Science has shown us that cycles occur, yes, but never in history of the Earth as we know it (they can go thousands of years back with examining bubbles in the ice)the temperature or CO2 emisions were so high. It's to much for the Earth to even it out (especially because of the deforestation).
    http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/sustainability/images/c02_levels.jpg

Now with restricting human life I don't quite see what you mean...

And I don't know what is it with this disbelieving...so if this global warming is wrong...and we all have energy saving light bulbs and electric cars etc etc... what do we get to loose? (America wants oil I can get that)..but think of what we loose if it's true. And what is so bad if you at least fight against cutting down rainforrests etc. You don't have to call it global warming it's actually a fight for preserving nature and Earth.
Now you're all conspicius.. but that terrorism pumps you up every time (that doesn't aim directly to you...in general).

It helps to get your facts straight. 2006 was a great year for lack of hurricanes. Lives were saved as well as millions of dollars. Let's be thankful for the truth.

well, einstein, let's take a look at what are in the atmosphere's of these 2 planets
    Mars
    95.72% Carbon dioxide
    2.7% Nitrogen
    1.6% Argon
    0.2% Oxygen
    0.07% Carbon monoxide
    0.03% Water vapor
    0.01% Nitric oxide
    2.5 ppm Neon
    300 ppb Krypton
    130 ppb Formaldehyde
    80 ppb Xenon
    30 ppb Ozone
    10 ppb Methane

    Earth
    78.08% N2
    20.95% O2
    0.93% Argon
    0.038% Carbon dioxide
Trace water vapor (varies with climate)

soooo...mars' atmosphere is 95.72% Carbon Dioxide....a major greenhouse gas....doesn't seem too hard to figure out why this would happen on mars, at least not for most

I'm sorry Darwin but Mars temperature has increased similarly to Earth's temperature during "global warming"... so apparently the compostion of atmosphere hasn't had an effect.

So based on your observations, with all of that evil CO2 shouldn't Mars be wicked hot? Why, then, it it so cold there?

And where did the C02 come from? Are you suggesting it is a natural occurrance there, but not here on Earth?

Or, if it is a natural occurrance both places, and both are experience warming currently, why is it humans' fault here?

Please don't pass off conjecture as fact.

First, hurricanes aren't "increasing". Hurricanes, the number of them and their strengths, fluctuate. There are less hurricanes now then their were 30-40 years ago. However, hurricanes now, on average are stronger. Take a look at this:

Huh? I didn't say man plays no role in it.

However, just because man plays a role, doesn't mean man plays a primary role or even a negligible or non-negligible role.

I'll ask you the same question I ask everyone else like you:

If man today stopped producing any carbon-based emissions, what exactly would happen to global weather patterns?
