Do you all think this can be saved?

Have you seen the numbers.

My generation is being screwed by the selfish wealthy, as if there arent enough obstacles to maintain a steady personal economic gain in this economy!
I'm 23 and will never see Social Security money. Nor do i want to.

I will not accept slave wages!

Also, why can't he go into detail on how?

and how come none of those people stormed the podium with a shoe in hand!

    is this acceptable?

It was a bogus plan when it was written up.

And you do know its not a fixed sum of money you get...the more you make, the more you get.

Im referring to the ''elite'' who created this thing.

this wasn't unforseen either, the warnings have been there since the beginning...but no one cares because, its my peers who are paying for it.

And what's wrong with that? Are you suggesting that people should get more than they pay in? How would that not amount to a "bogus plan"?

Good, don't expect too. Save your money. 401K now. IRA now. Start putting money away. Live well within your means and you'll never live paycheck to paycheck. Trust me, it can be done. Get all the education you can get and make yourself as marketable as possible.

Social Security for our generation is a waste other than taking care of the immediate needs of our elders who either lived longer than they thought or didn't prepare at all in their lives, it's simply another tax that we pay. It was never ever intended to be used as it is in our society.

It's called growing up and being responsible. Competition sucks sometimes, but it's a hell of a lot better than having other people make all your decisions for you and living a life of virtual pablum.

Most people don't seem to understand that healthcare and retirement are their own responsibilities and must be planned for.

Look at Galveston Tx and any other municipality that doesn't have to pay into Social Security...they are doing a hell of a lot better. Social Security is an IOU, it dosen't exist, it's not being saved or invested the way it would be if it were private, it's spent, it's spent the second it hits the governments coffers and that is why it is in horrible shape. Too many old people and "disabled", not enough people paying in. The government is the reason for this issue in the first place.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

    lol.. who is losing here

someone who makes 30,000 dollars drops to 24,000 after retirement.

someone who makes 3,000,000 drops to 2.4 million

Someone making $98,000 per year pays the exact same dollar amount into Social Security as someone who's making one million per year, one billion per year, etc - roughly $6,000.

If you make one million dollars per year, you only pay $6,000 into Social Security. Someone needs to suggest lifting that cap entirely.

    Hehe...no. Someone who makes 3,000,000 / year will make $26k / year (0.8%). Someone who makes 30,000 / year will make $12k / year (40%).

I would rather they suggest abolishing the entire program. Make it voluntary for those that think the government is better at planning and preparing their retirement.

Hehe...funding problem solved? Ok, so you've just massively increased the taxes for small business owners everywhere, thereby increasing unemployment and decreasing earnings for average workers, thereby forcing increased payouts from your system via SSI. Furthermore, you've completely bastardized a system that, while foolish, at least held onto a personal investment in personal future concept.

In the end though, you'll probably still end up ahead by taking the full amount from the wealthy and paying them back an incredibly tiny percentage back. But wouldn't it be easier to simply steal their property, sell it at auction, and then dump the profits out of helicopters over major cities?
