I'll never forgive Powell for going to the UN with a trumped up case that he knew was a trumped up case, but no one can really say that he pushed as hard as the neocons or was ideologically in agreement with them.

Agreed, he definitely compromised himself at the U.N., but he was acting in his capacity as the highest level diplomat in the US, and was towing the Bush/Cheney line. He wasn't the mastermind or propronent of the plan, he was simply the messenger. That doesn't excuse what he did, but I was simply arguing against the ridiculous position that he was more agressively in favor of the action than Bush/Cheney.

You should take a little lesson in civics and government. It seems like you don't even understand the basic functions of the various offices. Of course it was Powell and not Cheney at the U.N. And I've already mentioned that Powell spoke at the U.N. Do you honestly think his speech at the U.N. was one of his own design? Do you really think he was the one who set the agenda for Bush/Cheney?

What does this mean? I can't parse the english. LikeAnOcean is right, btw, but I can't tell if you're agreeing with him or not.

Powell, as a military guy, was pushing for a diplomatic solution rather than a military solution. Bush/Cheney obviously wanted to flex their dicks, and were at odds with Powell. He did the honorable thing and wiped his hands of the mess.

    wrong-o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seriously? Yeah, someone rises to the rank of general, gets their jump wings, becomes a ranger and a bronze star for valor by just showing up and playing along... And the ol boys club historically isn't exactly open to them coloreds.

What exactly have you accomplished in life?

Well, I can tell you that I haven't been responsible for promoting a phony war, and killing many thousands of innocent children in the name of complete and utter bullshit.

Sigh...maybe I need to set the bar higher...

  • Powell said Bush accepted the resignation Friday, adding, "It has always been my intention that I would serve one term."

-Look the source is CNN, not Alex Jones!

Powell was sent to the UN to speak on the behalf of the Bush/Cheney agenda soley on his extensive military record. They knew that this so called iron clad information coming from Powell wold be bought by the American Media and some of it's naive citizens and many did.

I can remember what's his name Hanity saying "Slamdunk, Powell nailed it today" or some shit like that. Powell being a military guy knew what he was presenting was bullshit but went ahead anyway and to me that makes him as much as a culprit as with Iraqi blood on his hands as Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld. It doesn't matter to me if he only wanted 1 term then leave or wash his bloody hands of the whole thing.

As for Rommy he's probably back at his favorite spot Mount Misery.
Frederick Douglass, the renowned abolitionist, began life as a slave on Maryland's Eastern Shore. When his owner had trouble with the young, unruly slave, Douglass was sent to Edward Covey, a notorious "slave breaker." Covey's plantation, where physical and psychological torture were standard, was called Mount Misery. Douglass eventually fought back, escaped to the North and went on to change the world. Today Mount Misery is owned by Donald Rumsfeld, the outgoing secretary of defense.

It is ironic that this notorious plantation run by a practiced torturer would now be owned by Rumsfeld, himself accused as the man principally responsible for the U.S. military's program of torture and detention.

Couple houses down the same street guess who has a house there too?

Straight from our favorite non-source, wikipedia:

"Powell later admitted he had presented an inaccurate case to the United Nations on Iraqi weapons, and the intelligence he was relying on was, in some cases, "deliberately misleading."[43][44][45]

JUST LIKE HE LIED ABOUT THE FIRST GULF WAR!

After the war, Gen. Colin Powell admitted that there had been no massive build up. A US senior commander told Newsday after the war, "There was a great disinformation campaign surrounding this war." - source

another mention of this, and a good read

Collin Powell is a lying ass uncle tom shuffling his feet for "massa".

I'm not saying his WHOLE military career was a lie.but once he got to the top they made him a token and he willingly obliged.

Real black men who speak the truth get assassinated.just ask Malcolm X,MLK,Huey newton,Fred Hampton etc., etc., etc.
