I may be wrong but I don't think that Kuwait was part of Iraq.

One reference to a declassified U.S. State Dept document on U.S. support for Iraq against Iran, and the concern about chemical weapons being used.

Number 1 is true. Is the geo-politics of the Middle East. Noone in the region wanted Iran to export their revolution and gain a Shi'ite hegemon. Many countries there (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait come to mind) are pissed because we took Saddam and out power because they considered Iraq a buffer state between them and Iran.

Understand, I'm not saying this is a good reason, or an acceptable reason. I'm simply saying it's the reason.

I don't want to touch number two; however, I'll simply say that it's half correct and leave it at that.

no Im refering to Iran. saddam used mustard gas against the iranians during the war

And we wholy supported that action. In the 1980s... remember, that idiot mantra, "The Enemy of my Enemy is My Friend"?
Why is it that we applaud the gassing of Iranians in 1980, and abhor and condemn that same action in 2006?
    ...
Answer: He was never 'My Friend' in the first place... I'm an idiot for believing that.
