I find it odd that someone with your sig would list this as a negative trait. In fact, Ayn Rand wrote a book called The Virtue of Selfishness. The idea is that we should all act in enlightened self-interest.

I've always like this passage (and used it as my sig on a different board):
"Every human being is an end in himself, not the means to the ends or the welfare of others," says Miss Rand, "and therefore, man must live for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself."

I just like the quote, not everything Ayn Rand espouses. And I stand by my opinion that selfishness and a me centered society is why we have problems.

I would agree. Too many Americans are only looking out for themselves and we're forgetting about all of those that don't have what we have - house, job, food, healthcare.

It's all about how big our house is, how big our SUV is, how big our TV is, how much Nascar stuff we have, etc.

Actually looking back now, I'm glad they can't. They are nothing but watered down corporate Repubs anyway, giving only the illusion of choice. If enough people get tired of this same old song and dance maybe we can start seeing some third and fourth parties making some more progress.

    ...
You mean like the way some people treat others like shit and expect Jesus to wash away their sins? Or like how some kid beats the crap out of some weird kid on a daily basis and is surprized when the weird kid shoots him?
You can't tell me that if you were driving and for whatever reason, you were driving while sleepy or distracted by the stereo or drivig too fast on slick pavement and lost control of your vehicle and slammed into a bus stop, killing someone waiting for the bus... that you would not get yourself a lawyer and plead guilty of negligence resulting in involuentary manslaughter and spend 7 to 10 years in prison. That is also considered not holding yourself accountable for your actions, isn't it?
