Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    a) nice hat

    b) that steelworker fella appeared pretty close to shoving that hat and bullhorn up his ass...he should be thankful for the police intervention

    c) no one made him stop talking, they just moved him...he continued to talk...no one stopped that

    d) who knew Christan Slater was such an idiot

Why should he be moved at all? If he was saying something like "Go Obama"... I'd bet nothing would have happened. It was what he was saying...the truth...which was the problem. People don't want to hear the truth apparently.

I'm sure the bullhorn in everyone's ear didn't have anything to do with this...

If there is a fire?...yes definitely....absolutely. In fact it should be encouraged in order to save lives.

When you are telling the truth, freedom of speech should be congratulated where appropriate not attacked. In this case this guy is ahead of the curve and the people present in the dark have yet to figure out not only what the guy was saying, but what it actually means.

Dissent is not tolerated, apparently, even when it's for the good of the people and the country itself as a whole.

    I'm still shaking my head...

  • I'm sure the bullhorn in everyone's ear didn't have anything to do with this...

Exactly... there were other people shouting similar things, but they weren't escorted away.

Maybe the guy should have been allowed to bring a 1,000 watt PA system... I guess there wouldn't be grounds to shut him down then either.

your "truth" may not be the same as others "truth"....

again, his free speech was not taken away...the continued to talk and scream through the bullhorn...no one muzzled him...no one prevented words from coming out of his mouth....

and for this guy being ahead of the curve....his hat tells me otherwise...

He was pointing it upwards not in people's ears. They didn't feel like listening to what he had to say because it wasn't "Obama is awesome woo"...

He was dissenting against the system which everyone knows is horrendously flawed, but yet nobody really wants to talk about it directly (that is if they even are aware in the first place)....they would rather let one part of the elected apparatus speak, think, and act for them, while hoping it's all going to work out at arms length. It's getting pretty critical people figure out the program, and soon. It's bigger than what Obama want's to do. He answers to the corporatocracy flat out, and they call the shots....not Obama.

  • Obviously the problem with protesting is believing you are smarter and wiser than everyone else then when everyone starts to finally listen to you someone else comes along that thinks they are smarter than you and you just wish that they would shut the fuck up...

Few people take the time, or even have the time to really understand economics and politics beyond what the the TV tells them. Is that an excuse to be unaware of the facts...perhaps to some it's fine...perhaps not to others.

Once the predictability factor kicks in for people, it's a whole different ballgame as to what happens day to day, and why.

  • I understand the theories but have yet to grasp the solutions of corporate control.

Is there a candidate that doesn't wipe his ass with corporation produced toilet paper?
Or flush their shit down a corporate produced toilet.
Then tell me you've never eaten Taco Bell after getting drunk on corporate beer.

I've done all that more times than I can count, and so has every politician alive and dead.
Once more public awareness kicks in, it will become reality. The trick is getting people organized and informed, and involved. On the current course I'd say it's inevitable, as people are struggling at home now as well, and are looking hard for answers. How much money do these elite corporate a-holes want is my question, but that's another thread.

Quite simply, corporations need to be redefined under new (more humanitarian) guidelines. The good news is this has happened several times throughout history, so it's definitely not impossible by any means, it just needs ongoing coordination and persistence from many at the same time.

You got it right on. There are a number of times, if you listen to the video, where the cops say, it is because "you are being too loud" (with his megaphone)

The guy taking the video was shouting the same stuff, and they weren't escorting him off, he was following his goofy megaphone friend.

Ever been around someone using a megaphone when you've liked what the person was saying? I have.

...it's not too loud dude...it's just a megaphone not a jet engine.

Everything the guy was saying in the video. It gets philosophical beyond this point.

all I could get was blah blah blah obama and mccain are the same blah blah blah my hat came with a free soup blah blah blah look at me and my super coolness blah blah blah oh! my free speech has been taken but I keep talking blah blah blah....

You can say whatever you want about the guy, but it doesn't change the reality of what he is saying. The corporations have gotten to everyone my friend. There is no eluding complete monetary control to the point that even congress and presidents are susceptible to it.

Everyone the world around is affected by how they are run...as well as air, water, and soil.

So have they gotten to me? Who (edit: and what) haven't they?

Well that's unfortunate. I heard and saw something very different, the least of it was how the guy was dressed.

Yeah, I don't want somebody at a Pearl Jam concert yelling, "Pearl Jam Rocks" through a Megaphone. I do agree that Pearl Jam does indeed rock but I don't want to hear it through a megaphone, it is way too loud...even in a concert setting.

Well you go to hear the band play music not hear the patrons right?

When you go to a political free for all you expect to hear people exercising their right to free speech, some very loudly.

Maybe police should just ban megaphones in public and be done with it?

    first impressions are important...;)

Listen, I have to be honest, I less of an issue with what what the guy said or didn't say, it was his choice of venue and method of communication...

also, while I understand "corporations" can be seen as a bad thing...I wonder what the alternative is...get rid if them...? do away with them....?

check out Sudan and third world countries that don't have "corporations"....

I suppose if one doesn't care for "corporations", then that person should stop being a part of them...i.e., don't buy anything, grow your own food, weave you own fabric, use leaves to wipe their ass....

maybe that fella should have made his own megaphone...cuz I'd be willing to bet a "corporation" played some role in the making of said megaphone...

No, actually I go to concerts to get the energy from the patrons, their singing from singalongs, their yelling and encouragement of the bands. There is a focal point to the energy (the band) but as long as other people are yelling at normal voice levels, I enjoy it. If somebody had a megaphone to enhance their voice over everybody elses, I would be pissed but if everybody was silent, it would be boring. (E.V./accoustic concerts are different)

As another estute poster put it earlier, if we allow machines to aid decibel levels, it will turn into a sound war. My amplification system is louder than yours. Dumb. Let the voices of democracy speak. Strength in numbers. Or are you more interested in the Lord of the Flies model? Whoever has the Conch Shell is allowed to speak.
