The Iraq War - Legal or Illegal

The UN never mandated the use of military force in Iraq
Do the opinions of all the other countries around the world not mean anything anymore..
So this world belongs to Bush, and his grandiose ideas on who should be allowed to live and die until it (if ever) suits him?
hmm
We are a soveriegn nation, and as such we don't really answer to anyone (and neither should other peaceful nations.)
If another country were to invade another country (let's say Russia invades Afghanistan) would we argue whether or not it's illegal, or would our president train and arm an extremist military that would never come back and bite us in the ass (sarcasm).0 -

Either you're dense, or goading him. I've never seen FFG afraid to argue anything.
I don't click on Roland's links and haven't for months. If he can make an argument in his own words, and cite sources, that would be one thing. But his MO is to post a link and think that the link is the argument. Lots of people here don't have any desire to sit around clicking Roland's links."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Aww, come on. The cat's a little cute, if somewhat dull.
Also, the video doesn't quite give us the reason why they find the war illegal. They simply just trot out some pictures of people being tortured and killed. Horrible, yes. Part of the war that was voted through by our elected officials (rightly or wrongly is not the issue here, just the legality of the war) and carried out exactly as promised: not very well.
To clarify, I'm against the war, but to argue the legality seems pointless.0 -

Watch the video. Then argue.
It's pretty straightforward and definitely made for those that have thick skulls, live in a perpetual state of accountability denial.the Minions0 -

You weren't paying attention... see the part where we (the US) signed the UN charter. We can't declare war (according to the UN charter we signed) unless:
1. We are attacked (self-defense) which we weren't
2. UN must sanction the war (it didn't)
those are the same as the laws of the 6th amendment to the constitution, therefore the war was illegal.
Watch the whole video!!! don't go to the 12 min spot.

Actually Saddam's link to 9/11 was dismissed before we invaded.
WMD's was the official excuse.
the CIA could not link Saddam with Al Quieda, they tried very hard but came across with no credibility.
essentially Saddam would have supported Al Quieda about as much as Jerry Fallwell would have supported Louis Farrakhan.the Minions0 -

Did you watch it all to make that conclusion? It lays it all out rather clearly.
torture? basic human rights denied? executing the wounded? off the top of my head.
The Geneva convention has been shat on so thoroughly it's been buried, suffocated, and has turned on to compost.Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

LOL...no, I didn't watch it. And regardless of what it is, I'm quite sure I could argue with it.
If you want to argue, make your case. But please don't pretend it's not ironic to call someone chickenshit, anonymously, on a message board, whilst hiding behind the arguments of others in a youtube link.0 -
yeah you're right it's ironic I won't pretend you're clever though watch the clip.

get real.. If the sky is blue why bother writing an essay saying so because someone is too damn lazy and defiant (or whatever the strange case may be) to participate effectively. Yeesh...
And talking about saving time. My time is just as valuable as anyone else's thank you very much. If I can summarize it in a timely manner then so be it...

If you're going to try to count the weak links in the UN, you best be prepared to make a bigger list.
Certainly in many cases the US has served to undermine, subvert, and generally derail the UN, but we are far from alone. As it stands today, the UN is a body of convenience, not a body of sovereign principle. And that's much bigger than "the US".0 -

You have no obligation to write an essay, or even debate with me. I've laid out my terms: if you want to debate, make a case. If you don't wish to do so, that's cool, regardless of your reasoning. And talking about saving time. My time is just as valuable as anyone else's thank you very much.
