I am a resident of ND and in the military, does that make me a traitor?

not a traitor, just an "illegal" immigrant.

also, there is a good amount of coal in a few of those states

They would also be in possession of several well placed weapons of mass destructions.

  • Come on Lakotas, let's see some drastic shit here. A foreign nation hasn't marched on American land since 1812, so get to it. You guys could totally make history.

Yeah, this is a bit retarded. They are totally land-locked and you'd have to fly supplies through US airspace which isn't going to happen. Besides, all we'd have to do is blockade the reservations and they'd eventually starve to death.

    Anyways...

    Have fun boys!

P.S. Do you know why Indians never have to wait for a seat at a restaurant?

... because they have 'reservations'! :D

Even better joke is ' How many Indians would it take to make Yellowstone erupt?

  • My question is, how are they going to supply themselves with basically anything? I mean, for example, their electricity infrastructure is US supplied and maintained. If the United States government doesn't like the secession couldn't the government just choose not to supply electricity and other utilities to the Lakota nation?

Maybe they could go back to being REAL indians and actualy live off the land.

    ???

You know, man did exist before electricty and modern machines.

And it IS possible to grow or forage your own food localy.

Yeah, but my bet is the majority of them won't want to live without some of the things that we all take for granted today.
  • This story scared the shit out of me, and then I realised the Lakota Indians don't actually live in America, they live in North Dakota. So I went back to drinking my juicebox.

Seriously, if those states seceeded from the union, would it matter? "Oh shit, guys, Nebraska just seceeded from the united states. I guess we'll have to go somewhere else for our tacky garden gnomes and lawn flamingoes."

In conclusion, the indians should have nabbed some better states, like Colorado or California. That might give the revolucionnes some exposure.

This is the funniest thing I've read in a long while. Nice job.

"The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States, leaders said Wednesday.

"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighborhood of Washington for a news conference.

A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old.

They also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference.

Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free -- provided residents renounce their US citizenship, Means said.

The treaties signed with the United States are merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists say on their website.

The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says."

    exactly.
it's a shame most people don't know that the US Constitution is directly modeled after the Great Law of Peace of the Iroquois Confederacy.

as for the news...I really hope something good comes of this for the Native Americans, it's been long due.

    Uh.
I was under the impression that at least SOME of the ideas in our constitution were originated in the Magna Carta, but hey, you could be right.

add in New Mexico, Nebraska and South Dakota. Maybe the State governors and the Indian nations are working together to stop Ted's greedy land grabs.

the only land the lakota's own is their reservation. the only way to get back any other land they claim to own is to declare war on the us. it's a nice dream but they're just blowing smoke.

take it a step further. ted's land grabs are to raise buffalo. he has 48 resturants accross the east coast. he started this when a cure for cancer was found in buffalo meat. unfortunately for him; that compound is lost when he fattens them up with grain. but he's learning.

when global warming floods the coasts; you'll be buying land from ted.

i take that back. if they backed out of their treaties; they have no land here.

well, the magna carta was certainly an influence, but the entire framework of the constitution is based on the Great Law of Peace.

and you think they get most of that on the reservations?
