What else is there really that can support our ever-growing electricity demands? My whole life

first of all - we can easily cut our consumption requirements - if people paid the true cost of electricity maybe we wouldn't waste so much of it ... i live an excessive north american lifestyle and i use 1/10th of what people use ...
secondly - there are lot of renewable options out there ... but the oil and gas and coal lobbies are not interested in furthering those kind of causes ... that's why thing such as electric cars are not a reality ...0 -

I'd love to see a wind-powered or solar-powered car.
Wind powered would be great! Put a windmill on top and it'll generate the electricity for the car while you're tooling alongat 40 mph!
Something seems wrong with those physics, though!
Actually, electric cars are running much more efficiently than an internal combustion engine. There is no combustion so there are no added emissions to the air.
Gasoline, ethanol and other fossil fuels need energy to manufacture, so they pollute the air at the refinery AND at the car tail pipe.
Electric still needs that electric power plant, but don't emit at the tailpipe.
If you look at this car:

Allegedly it goes 25 miles on 4.5 Kilowatts of power. My electric company charges about $.15 per KW, so 25 miles would be about $.88 versus about $3.00 if you have a 25 mile per gallon gasoline car.
I could even save more if I plug it into my nextdoor neighbor's electric outlet at night!Be kind, man

The SUV eats up more gasoline, but I am a lot more conscientious about wasting gas etc. I fill up about once every three weeks, and it's an 85L gastank. With the Mustang, it was also once per three weeks, but it was only a 55L tank.
So, assuming I spend between 100 and 115 Canadian dollars per month on gasoline, I would be really curious to find out how much more I would have to pay in my Hydroelectric bill driving an electric car. We have nuclear power in this area so it's not technically burning a fossil fuel.
your basic math would look like this ...
take the km you drive on one charge divide it by how much electricity is required to charge the battery multipled by what you pay per kwh and u got your per km rate ... then multiply it over the 500 odd kms u are probably getting per tank on your suv ...0 -
People living in California and Mexico and other places with approx 300 days a year of sun would kill going solar. An electric car in that scenario would be awesome. The sun is pumping it out in excess why not grab it up?
There should be a huge top down movement to make solar panel technology dirt cheap and everywhere. I'm beginning to think it's not about going green, it's about keeping the populous leashed, downtrodden, and strictly under $ thumb.
Power is power so to speak in any form I suppose. Why empower the people right?
Damn...someone overthrow this greedy monkey on my back already.

You can get this one too for $82,000 less! I think these are running about $12,000 with the solar panels.

I'm actually thinking about getting this for my business. I'm known as a weirdo already, this just seals the deal!
The problem with solar is that night driving!
I'll bet it's also hell in the Holland Tunnel when the batteries are drained. Haha,,, I'd have to ask the car next to me if I could plug into their cigarette lighterBe kind, man
