This type of operation was his baby in regards to its use against the big call girl rings and their big $$ johns.
I know it included wiretapping and domestic spying.
I'm saying that I'm pretty sure Spitzer didn't use those 'traps' to bust prostitution rings. This is America...are we ready to sit back allow this kind of crap?? Why was he being monitored in the first place? Is it okay to allow the gov't to go after other gov't officials in order to bring down the ones that are in their way? We all would come up hypocrites or unfit under that kind of magnifying glass. I'm not saying that it is okay for him to be a hypocrite but I'm saying that most politicians are...this isn't news and we're not looking at the big picture here but are instead being dazzled by the sensational headlines. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

"Who watches the Watchmen"???All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0 -
tybird wrote:He was only targeted after his account (s) were tagged is the only version of the story that I have read.
Correct. He wasn't targetted, and the prostitution ring wasn't targetted. The bank transactions triggered flags which required the banks to report those transactions. Those reports were forwarded to investigators who saw enough to follow up. The follow-up led to Spitzer on one end the the Emporer's Club on the other end of the path.
The LA Times wrote a pretty good piece explaining it:

Big Brother is definitely watching. The banks were required by the government to report those sorts of transactions. But there is no evidence that there was a grand conspiracy against Spitzer that caused the government to wiretap and spy on him. Spitzer used the same investigative techniques himself to bust others. So while I'm not happy that big brother is watching, I'm glad one of it's own was caught in the trap."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

yea I agree. its also a very gray area on where to drawn the line. same goes for wire tapping for terrorism yada yada. its tough.
for me, its like the abortion issue. I cant tell either side they are wrong. but we'll leave that for a different discussion0 -

But it can't be a good thing if those in power use surveillance against those who may pose a political threat to their power. I'd rather risk identity theft and fraud than have a government with this amount of unchecked power.
Have any of you seen Michael Clayton? I just watched it last weekend
and boy...that movie had me worked up!It was pretty good, though.
