"Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has said Israel holds at least 150 nuclear weapons, the first time a U.S. president has publicly acknowledged Israel's atomic arsenal.

Asked at a news conference at Wales's Hay literary festival on Sunday how a future U.S. president should deal with the Iranian nuclear threat, Carter put the risk in context by listing atomic weapons held globally.

"The U.S. has more more than 12,000 nuclear weapons, the Soviet Union (Russia) has about the same, Great Britain and France have several hundred, and Israel has 150 or more. We have a phalanx of enormous weaponry ... not only of enormous weaponry but of rockets to deliver those missiles on a pinpoint accuracy target," he said, according to a transcript of his remarks.

Carter also condemned Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip as "one of the greatest human rights crimes now existing on Earth," according to the Agence France-Presse news agency. "

Ever since Mordechai Vanunu exposed Israel's nuclear program they've stock piling ever since. What exactly have they had to fear especially with America's backing.

Nuclear Threat Is From Israel NOT Iran. If this secret never came out where would we be today?

'Former Israeli military intelligence chief Aharon Zeevi-Farkash told Reuters news agency he considered Mr Carter's comments "irresponsible".

"The problem is that there are those who can use these statements when it comes to discussing the international effort to prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons," he said.

During the press briefing, Mr Carter expressed his support for Israel as a country, but criticised its domestic and foreign policy.

"One of the greatest human rights crimes on earth is the starvation and imprisonment of 1.6m Palestinians," he said.

The former US president cited statistics which he said showed the nutritional intake of some Palestinian children was below that of children in Sub-Saharan Africa..'

i remember the day the iranian hostages were taken. and i find it an interesting moment in history that carter was thwarted in his attempts to secure their release and yet the reagan administration managed it with relative ease.

Because the Iranians weren't going to let him have one moment of glory and they were scarred shitless of RR. He wasn't going to take any crap and they knew it. All you have to do is remember the time before the election in '80 to know what the American people thought of him. He's a nightmare.

Catrer orchestrated a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. Not a point of that treaty has been breached in nearly 30 years.

Carter secured the hostages release. Reagan may have committed treason by subverting the president of the united states and prolonging the hostage crisis; by bowing to Iran -giving Iran weapons to delay the release of hostages for domestic politics.

It was more like 30 years and it was his ONE shinning moment. Do you remember the state he left the economy? We were in a huge recession when RR took over. Interest rates were near 20% and unemployment was in double digits, too.

I would go the opposite way by takin away Israel's weapons to the same with Palestine and see what happens at that point.

That's like saying Lou Pinella is the greatest manager the Devil Rays ever had.

RR handed out bandaids while we continued to bleed internally. If the Soviet Union wasn't "bleeding out" faster than the US at the time due to massive military overspending (RR only glorious moment " tear down that wall Mr Gorbachev...") RR is just another in a long line of military overspending presidents we've had.

That is just like our Indian wars. Where we armed the Indians and used our soldiers to fight them. We learned the easiest way to end a war is not to let it be a "fair" fight.

I really don't know where you nut jobs get your info. I refuse to debate this with you because you see conspiracies everywhere. You really don't have any sense of history or economics. You really don't step back and look at anything objectively. You already have your mind made up and aren't open to anything else.
