Your hammering this Obama guy into our heads so much, it makes a person wonder. You are not even open to debating his credentials, or lack thereof.
Here’s why I want to see Barack Obama become our president. First, he was one of a very few people who was opposed to the war with Iraq before we even went there. He said in an interview back in 2002 that he would have voted against the war, and he lists as his reasons a) it would cost billions, b) we would lose thousands of our troops, c) our presence there would become resented and d) the Sunnis and Shiites could very well fall into an all-out civil war and we would be mired in it, trying to help fight with our hands tied behind our backs. In my opinion, all of that has come to pass. Here is a link to the interview:
Secondly, his lack of political experience, as opposed to the other candidates’, is not a problem for me. I would prefer someone who hasn’t been swallowed up by the government machine. A “newbie”, if you will, would be more willing to compromise with people outside his party and cross the lines between Dem and Republican in order to get things done. Obama repeatedly states in his “Audacity of Hope” that he thinks politicians should compromise more, keeping their minds open when talking to someone from the other party, gleaning what they can out of the conversation and, yes, finding common ground. As for where he stands on the issues, all you have to do is read his speeches from the Senate floor and you’ll see how he feels about everything from Iraq to stem cell research. I’ve already posted the link to his US Senate website once before, but here it is again. Click on this and you can read all of his senate speeches and other statements for yourself:
I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon because the guy is charismatic and looks good on TV. I don’t vote because of superficial reasons, I vote for someone who makes sense to me. I also vote for character, and I think that’s something Obama has a lot of. I’ll be honest, the war with Iraq is one of my main concerns, and the fact that he is so against it is what has me backing him more than any other candidate. Hillary, of course, is now against the war as well and is promising to end it the minute she becomes president. But I have never cared for Hillary and I would have a very hard time accepting her as my president. She seems too slick, too influenced by her Washington insiders, and too tainted by her past (Whitewater, her health care debacle, etc.). Obama is not relying on special interests to get his money and his backing for his campaign – instead he is starting an incredible grass roots campaigning effort on his new website:
I attended a “New York for Obama” meeting on Sunday night in Soho with about 45 other people and we’re planning some fundraisers and a walk-a-thon in the months ahead. The night before, there were over 200 people who gathered at a club in NYC to discuss his campaign and to show their support. Eventually, all the members from my NY chapter will be joining up with members from other groups in our state, which will bring our total up into the thousands. My group is already linked directly to Obama’s MyBarackObama.com in his website and other New York groups are starting to link up as well. People all over the nation are doing the same thing, all on their own. It’s something Obama appreciates and encourages. Meetup.com is a great website where you can find like-minded people to meet up with on just about any topic. Here’s a sampling of Obama groups that are using the website to hook up:
I’m glad to have joined up, and I’m glad these groups are getting hooked up directly to Obama’s website. It gives us all a voice.
If you feel strongly about a candidate, it makes sense to help raise awareness about them and help educate others about them. So that’s why I’ve been banging him over your heads lately.
