And what does it say to YOU?

"No one is exempt from the call to find common ground."

...since you're all so anxious to know who made this remark about empathy (I can see you chomping at the bit, and I appreciate all your responses, wink wink)...

The person who said this was Barack Obama.

I don't like the idea of someone telling me I'm not exempt from something. I don't have to answer the call if I don't want to.

It isn't about someone telling you what you are or are not, it's about the good side of human nature.

It's about how Barak Obama just wants to force people to behave, not inspire them to want to behave. A translation of his post is basically, "Don't think you don't have to be a good person." He says nothing about why. If he isn't talking about the why, then he should shut up.

Man, did you do drugs in the 60's?

Classic que barium post. When pwned, respond with insults. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, just spend a lot of time discovering the concept of innate goodness, and how it isn't something that is pressured onto people.

It was an attempt at humor in reply to a nonsensical humorous post of your own.

    Common ground.

You've only chosen to revile in it.

    And that's kinda humorous, too.

Nah, you just didn't know how to disprove it, so you resorted to an attempt to ridicule it. Now that's something that's kind of funny.

I suggest you keep re-reading my post until you understand what it means, because it does in fact make sense.

It makes sense if you go for that paranoid-delusional sort of thinking.

There's nothing there to counter. I mean, now that you're dragging it out, it's sort of sad.

    Peace be with you, man.

Now you're just spamming this thread with last word fanaticism. The bottom line is that you don't know how to understand my post. This is evident with your repeated attempts to just ridicule it. Now that's sad, but I'm trying to help you get better.

Wow...that's one of the most disgusting thing I've ever heard.
And what does it say to YOU?

That someone is going to tell me what to do, tell me what to give them, and tell me how to serve them, of course.

In all my selfishness, I want to live in a world that is safe and kind, so yeah, I think each of us who want to live in world that is acceptable to all, we are obligated to find common ground in order to live in harmony.

Actually, I took the quote right out of his book, "The Audacity of Hope", in a chapter where he discusses empathy. I really thought it was a cool quote. Hitler sure as hell didn't come to mind when I read it. Perhaps if I'd used it in context it might have come off a little differently.

Last Exodus, for the record: I'm not an Obama Plant here, I just like the man. If politics don't belong in AMT, then perhaps I've been misguided these past few months?

If BO was the CEO of XY corporation and that statement was a part of an internal memordandum, then I would say that his choice of words are justified. As employees of XY corporation, the people who read that memo are obligated to contribute to an environment of teamwork.

However, if I decide to build a log cabin in the woods, post a "tresspassers will be shot" sign on the edge of my property, and spend the whole day hating all people in general, then it is my right to do so. The "call to find common ground" will reach my answering machine and will be promptly deleted if I so choose.

Your hammering this Obama guy into our heads so much, it makes a person wonder. You are not even open to debating his credentials, or lack thereof.

odd, to me, how some take this quote to such personal lengths. it's a line, a sentence. who cares who it comes from?

On that note, I'm not a big Obama fan. I think he's an intelligent, good man, but I don't have high hopes for his Presidential run. I honestly don't think it will happen.
