    To boycott now seems pointless and kind of hypocritical. Beijing was awarded the Olympics back in 2001, so if other countries didn't approve of their government why didn't they stop them from getting the Olympics in the first place? It is not like China didn't control Tibet back then. To boycott now just makes the athletes carry the weight for something the IOC didn't have the guts to do 7 years ago (which seems entirely unfair to them).

    totally agree. and for most of these athletes, its their life goal, the culmination of years of training. and they only have one shot, two olympics if you're lucky, and only the few have three chances. china should never have been awarded the olympics and no one had the stones to deny them that years ago. even a chump like spielberg couldnt deny china's request when he signed on to "direct" the 2008 games. only now, because its "cool" in hollywood circles to protest darfur, did he withdraw. withdrawing is the right thing, but his ignorance was really exposed when he signed up in the beginning.

    While I agree China does some pretty crappy stuff....they are slowly but surely becoming westernized. The more interactions we have with they're government but more importantly with China's people the better and the sooner we can all just get over ourselves. Same reason going into Iraq and bombing the shit out of them just put us back couple generations.
