unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487I agree. I think China is a amazing country and the people there would be fun to be around. The government however ruins it for everyone, and we don't help the issue when we give them such a trade deficit. It is too bad China is going to own everything our kids do.0

I don't give a shit about the rest of the world. If they boycott... great. America needs to. It's the right thing for America to do. I can't say for the rest of the world. I'm sure it's the right thing to do. However, I live in America, and I feel fucking dirty about it.Love is more important to me than faith.0 -
Boycotting the Olympics doesn't do shit. It just punishes the athletes. China could give a fuck if we don't show up.one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother

The olympics are in China to
a - get close to Korea
b - promote democracy
That is my opinion.
It is a shame that the Olympics, which are supposed to celibate/promote unity, are being held in a country that wishes to segregate itself.
Then again, it is a shame that the Olympics is supposed to be a spotlight for amature athletes. It is nice to see the best of the best play, but disappointing at the same time. The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!
And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key0 -

Exactly. What's the point of boycotting? The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0 -

Exactly what I was thinking. It is not like China was a good, just, democratic country when they were awarded the olympics, and the government just changed its policies recently. If other countries wanted to take a stand they should have done it back then when the olympic city was being decided on. To boycott now is just a usless publicity stunt and only hurts the athletes who have been training.0 -
instead of boycotting they should break out the protesting at every oppurtunity and ruin the China asskiss fest.0

What should be done, as responsible individuals, is to boycott the medias who will try to make money of this event. Just don't watch these games, let them play in complete indifference. If enough people do that maybe medias and governments (who generally take decisions hand in hand) will understand that some principles are not for sale.
The countries that offered the games to china already knew who they were at that time, so boycotting won't come from them. But make this a money loosing event and maybe the point will come accross.0 -

The thing is, only a very few amount of people still care about the olympics anyway especially for watching it on TV... I'd wager that whoever has the TV deal is losing a hell of a lot of money on it and would rather not have it.
They'll promo the hell out of it, but I doubt it comes back with numbers that even partially make back the money spent broadcasting them and that's without dumpy China being involved. They could have them in Utopia and still not crack decent numbers at this point.
As dirty and corrupt as the IOC is.... it's really kind of appropriate they are happening in China isn't it?
What better place to have this glossy over hyped overly corrupted event than have great athletes running in toxic air and the bottoms of the shells melting in the horrid river pollutants...
The idea of the olympics is this pure thing, the reality is that nothing could be further from the truth. It's like 1950's Americana. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

What do you mean "get close to Korea"???All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0 -
After leaving Afgan the States had the stones to boycott to protest Russia taking up their slack. Now we have the States and friends back in Afgan and there is talk of a boycott again. Now I have seen it all.
Did the world in general think that China was going to get it's house in shape when the were granted the olympics? ha ha haYou've changed your place in this world!0 -

I agree, wholeheartedly, tho it will prolly never happen, unfortunately. But I'd like to see individual athletes put their IDEALS (YES! i DO believe in those!!) before their personal interests and refuse to participate. I know it's a long shot, but I can dream."Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."
"Obama's main opponent in this election on November 4th (was) not John McCain, it (was) ignorance."~Michael Moore
