I'd say there's more reason to hate you than hate them, you cant see that?
The French are for the most part arrogant pricks, as a people they are probably the most disliked amongst Europeans. But they keep their arrogance to their own personal space mostly, whereas america likes to export theirs in massive amounts.

So yes i can see why people would dislike the French but hate america.

PS sorry frenchies i dont particularly dislike you but on my travels i find it to be true:(:)

    PPS not sorry to america

the dislike for the french comes from them being two faced. when they want something they're nice and cooperative. when you want help in return they turn their backs on you. we should've let germany keep france. you can always count on a german for help.

Is it "okay" that they hate us? Is it okay with you that many nations hate Americans? Rhetorical question, because I know that it is. Its justified in your mind. But we're required to love every nation.

And I couldn't care less what they call french fries, as long as they taste good.
    ...
Who said anything about it being 'okay' to hate? Not me.
I'm just saying that Americans... MORONIC Americans see France as an object of hatred while there are places like Saudia Arabia and Pakistan that want to see us dead. Why to idiot Americans hate France? Because they didn't go with us on our little crusade.
I just think that places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are doing more things that would get these French hating Americans to get their hatred priorities straight. I'm guessing that the next attack on our soil is more likely to be from a Saudi Arabian or Pakistani than a Frenchman. Hating the French because of 'Oil For Food' or for not wanting to get stuck in the Iraqi mire with us over institutionalized hatred of the West by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is moronic, in my book.

it never ceases to amaze me what people will worry about. they'll thumb their noses at real problems like global warming and climate change; yet their infantile reaction to what a resturant calls it's menu selections is monumental. if you have a problem with my freedom burgers i refuse to serve you and ask you to leave.

I reckon I'd have already left before you had the chance to refuse me one of your infantile freedom burgers. I wouldn't feel safe eating food that has been cooked by a child.

Wrong! The dislike for the French by one particular element of Americans stems from these Americans being susceptible to anything the media shoves down their throats. It has nothing to do with history. It has everything to do with juvenile jingoism and pro-war hysteria.

I think America should hate itself more so than any other country on earth and should call for an immediate boycott of itself. Based on above logic.

I agree. America does hateful things... most notably, the arrogance that all we do is just and right. We tell ourselves that we are in places like the Middle East to 'make their lives better' when all we really want is their fucking oil sold to us at prices we want. We need to just buy the fucking oil and say, 'Gracias' and quit meddling in their internal affairs.
People don't hate us because of our freedom... you have to be a real moron to believe that. Do you think Bin Laden woke up one day and said, "Man... I HATE the U.S. Bill Of Rights... I hate it so much... I want to fly one of their airplanes into their office buildings"...? People hate us for WHAT WE DO... not WHO we are.
America has the ability and the capability of being a benevolent Super Power that leads nations, instead of trying to form nations. But, we don't. We measure our strength by the might of our military. Maybe if we built hospitals, schools, mosques and homes... instead of bases, McDonalds and Wal-Marts we'd have allies with the people of other nations, instead of alliances with political leaders (based upon the amount of money/weapons we place in their pockets) of other nations.

What are peoples opinions on this? I'd like to hear what some pro-war Republicans on here think of these things. I went to a bar in Florida a couple of years ago and they had 'freedom fries' on the menu. I proceeded to rip the piss out of the owner. He he he!

Jones, a one-time Democrat who switched his party affiliation for the Republicans' 1994 takeover of Congress, is best known as the one-time staunch Iraq war supporter who called for the House of Representatives' cafeteria to rename its French fries "freedom fries" to protest France's unwillingness to join the operation.

The cafeteria assented, going so far as to rename their French toast "freedom toast."

I think it was funny to call them freedom fries. The reason France did not go to war was because of money, not because of peace. They thought Saddam had WMD's just like we did. But they could make money off of Iraq, so why ruin a good thing? Same with Russia. These weren't noble countries, these countries were snakes looking out only for themselves. So, I still dislike France regardless of how the war turned out.

I still disagree with Ed's reasons for not going to war. He believes the world is this happy place where evil people can talk out their problems. He is mistaken. You have to get your hands dirty sometimes. Was he right about not going to Iraq? In the end, yes, but for the wrong reasons.

we can look back in history and see the dislike for the french. so how does this have nothing to do with history? i hear people my grandfathers age saying "we pulled their ass out of 2 wars and got nothing from them". even in colonial times there was a dislike for the french and i suppose that was influenced or inherited from our english roots. the english/french conflict goes back many more years.

Maybe they're content in the knowledge that they actually did win america its independence, whereas america did almost nothing in the first world war, and certainly no more than anyone else in the second world war.

I have no particular love for the French but at least their history books are about real life history unlike the shit some of you's must be reading. fucking laughable really...
