The good news is he was never going to get the psychopath, gun nut, religious nut vote...

I live in the midwest and am pretty bitter about the past 2 administrations. One a special interest driven corrupt war monger, the other an impeached get his cock sucked on our tax dollar liar.

I have not taken to the gun or religion though....I've surrendered to the power of the PJ

I wish this election would be over already, there has been more bullshit already and we are not even to October

You have to have an IQ of less than 50 to think what he said was an insult.

i believe what obama is trying to express is that we must start acting and stop waiting around for God to fix everything when we have the power that he/she gave us right in our hands to fix whats going on around us. we can fix whats wrong in this country if we progress from our dreary non sensical path and go forward. thats american.

so you want to re-take that IQ test or what?

oh, gimme a fucking BREAK! like what he said wasn't at least a little bit TRUE?? this "outrage" over his comments is just more bullshit, which is what most americans seem to prefer for breakfast, lunch and dinner. god forbid someone says anything of substance and ruffles people's feathers. yep, much better to pander and ass-kiss.

and clinton is just an opportunistic, bitter bitch anymore. i have ZERO respect for her. she needs to get beaten by obama badly, then she can go whine to her stupid husband (whom i USED TO admire) and leave the rest of us out of it.

I'm not seeing the insult in that. People are bitter. It's not like he called them douchebags or something.

I kind of think Obama's statement does show a hint of non-belief or at least religious ambivalence but I never thought Hillary would be the God and guns candidate. That's pretty funny.

Maybe the problem was that as Obama was speaking he was distracted by the sniper fire in Bosnia, bringing peace to Northern Ireland, solving the Macedonian refugee crisis, opposing NAFTA, leading the UN Conference on Women, and not knowing that Marc Penn was working for Colombia. It could happen to anyone.

But seriously, the "Politics as usual" strikes again. They take a snippet out of an entire speech and post just the allegedly condemning words or sound bite. Americans with short attentions spans won't mind. The politics and press of Reagan, Bush, Sr., Atwater, Clinton, Carville, W, Rove, Hillary, Fox, CNN and the internet wantabes plus the mainstream IQ siphons continue to play Americans for being a fool. Obama's campaign of change speaks for the end of this insult to America's intelligence and the end of 30 years of "Politics as usual.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with that statement if Obama said he didn't believe in God or supported gay marriage. He still is playing politics as usual.

oh, gimme a fucking BREAK! like what he said wasn't at least a little bit TRUE?.

It wasn't a little bit true, it was VERY true. Poor people who have had their jobs shipped overseas to never return ARE angry and bitter. Why wouldn't they be? To suggest they aren't or shouldn't be is absurd. People of faith DO turn to God when times are rough. People DO look for people to blame and develop anti-immigrant sentiments. Its just flat out true. God forbid someone point it out so we can address it.

Thank you cornnifer for proving me wong....good post.

I thought he insulted religious people more than people from the midwest and PA. In fact, those comments of his were so ignorant that I actually believe that he mis-spoke and doesn't really believe them.

After all, it is pretty ignorant to assume that people turn to religion just because they are frustrated with the government.

I gotta admit I like how Obama said that Clinton is now "running around talking like she's Annie Oakley." That's some good stuff, right there!

Kudos to Obama for actually apologizing for using the wrong choice of words. How refreshing!

Speaking as a man of faith, there is absolutely NOTHING insulting about Obama's statements. His remarks were anything but ignorant. In fact, they very insightful. Of course people of faith turn to God when they are sad, angry upset or bitter! It is what they SHOULD do! It is, as he said, a natural reaction. A faith i can't turn to, even sometimes "cling" to, during rough spots would be completely meaningless.

Edit to add: He wasn't suggesting people without faith suddenly adopt faith out of frustration. He was suggesting that people who have faith, cling to that faith when they are frustrated. THey DO. They SHOULD.

actually, i'd think quite a lot of ppl turn to religion when they hit bottom or feel hopeless or overly frustrated!

but here's what i don't get and correct me if i'm wrong b/c i don't really care about this particular issue either way so i haven't looked into it but isn't this how it happend?

obama was asked a private function why he's not doing as good in pennsylvania and he replies (paraphrasing) 'they are bitter...they cling to their guns and religion'

    ??

so then, isn't it safe to assume he did mean that in a negative way?

think of it in other ways
why did your wife leave you?
she was bitter and clung to her guns and religion....but i mean that in a good way! ?????

so, if he meant it in a positive way then doesn't that make them not supporting him the positive choice? maybe he meant it as 'they're bitter i'm just another corporate puppet who vows to bring change and reform and cling to their outdated values of guns and religion instead of my free trade scams and global monopolization and militarization'

    :D

and yes, i believe violence, aggression and most importantly war are outdated beliefs just as i think the idea of organized religions based on exclusion and dominance are
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

Spinbrett...do you realize that Illinois (the state where Obama is from) and Kansas (where Obama was raised and still has family) are in fact in the midwest?

    Get a life.
  • Having lived in the Midwest (rural Illinois) and Small town PA (Lancaster County) I think Obama is right on target with his comments. He fell short though, as he should have added alchohol and even meth as devices these people hold on to assuage their depression.

Thanks for participating Barrack. Try to work across the aisle during the McCain Administration.

Edit: I am going to enjoy hearing people that always whine about political correctness calling for political correctness in this case.

OK - if what you are saying is true- that turning to religious faith is what people should do - then he was insulting the audience he was speaking to because he was saying it about people in PA and the midwest????

I highly doubt he'd be putting down the audience that was in front of him at that particular function in San Fran.
