this is vegas ... a couple of articles were written about it - basically, the city does not have the police force to handle the event (combine that with a huge fashion thing and chinese new year celebrations) ...

good to know this, will make it a point to stay away from the allstar game and to think in the old days you could go to the game and actually feel safe.

I used to be a huge basketball fan, but the NBA is not the same as it used to be. Now the NBA is full of thugs and wanna be gangsters.

Agreed. I am hoping that it will lose some of this gangsta street vibe as more players from different countries are allowed to play ... Get some diversity in there.

I used to love watching basketball in the late 80's- the mid to late 90's. After that it went down hill.

What kind of racist crap are you spewing! ;)

I heard the fans went to town because it had been a while since the west had won the big game. Was that O.J. handing the MVP trophy over to Kobe?
You've changed your place in this world!
  • To be fair, it wasn't NBA "fans" who were causing problems at the all-star game. The typical NBA "fan" can't afford to go to the all-star game.

These were wannabe rappers and thugs and other hangers-on that seem to populate the outer fringes of NBA entourages. It seems like everybody in the league knows about four or five Ray-Rays from back home who just got out of the joint. And they all show up for the all-star game.

Vegas makes it worse, because for some reason, Vegas doesn't employ police officers.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get

    two words: Steve Nash

actually, if you look at the mvp candidates this year ... nowitzki, nash and wade ... all solid role models ...

    That's a very good point.

On a side note, my NBA Live 07 for 360 should be in today, yay for me.

my feeling is that the game is great now ... the western conference playoffs are gonna be some awesome basketball ... and my raptors are playing great team basketball ... and all the teams that are doing well - play like that ...

Players like Nash and D. Wade are a rarity in the NBA now.

Well let's just agree to disagree. To me the NBA has lost it's luster.

Not sure, but I agree with the basic point re. guys like Nash. He's awesome.
Other sports also have negative role models (cough ... Barry Bonds), but they don't seem to be inundated with this gangsta subculture.

it's not a big deal really, loads of people partying, long lines, frustration, general airport annoyance a few bad apples etc.

There were a ton of people in Vegas between the NBA alstar game and the MAGIC convention. Arrests happen, I bet it wasn't much more crazy than say new years eve or any other huge event.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I don't know man how often do you hear about hockey players getting in shit? like aside from the ones that get all the press, bertuzzi and Heatly, Jose Theordre's family had tax problems or something and Pronger wanted a trade, other than that I can't think of much, nothing like the NBA and NFL
