I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.

WASHINGTON - Legislation authored by U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) that will stop the abuse of no-bid contracting in the aftermath of a disaster was included in the final Department of Homeland Security funding bill likely to pass the Senate today. After Senate passage, the bill will go to the President's desk to be signed into law.

    http://obama.senate.gov/press/050922-obama_amendment/

Legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) that would require states to prepare disaster evacuation plans that account for the needs of society's most vulnerable members, including the poor, the disabled and the elderly passed the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs today unanimously.

Trust for America's Health (TFAH) commends Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) for his introduction yesterday of the AVIAN (Attacking Viral-Influenza Across Nations) Act of 2005. Experts worldwide believe a pandemic flu outbreak is inevitable and are highly concerned about the severity of the avian influenza virus currently circulating in Asia.

As early as February 2005, Senator Obama warned of a shortfall in the VA budget. Four months later, the VA reported that in fact it had more than a $1 billion shortfall. Senator Obama cosponsored a bill that led to a $1.5 billion increase in veterans' medical care. During the debate on the Fiscal Year 2007 budget, Senator Obama cosponsored measures that would have provided additional funding increases for veterans

Every year, 400,000 veterans across the country, including an estimated 38,000 in Chicago, spend some time living on the streets. Senator Obama has been a leader in fighting homelessness among veterans. He authored the Sheltering All Veterans Everywhere Act (SAVE Act) to strengthen and expand federal homeless veteran programs that serve over 100,000 homeless veterans annually. During the debate on the Fiscal Year 2007 budget, Senator Obama passed an amendment to increase funding for homeless veterans programs by $40 million. These funds would benefit programs that provide food, clothing, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and employment and housing assistance to homeless veterans.

Senator Obama passed an amendment to ensure that all service members returning from Iraq are properly screened for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). TBI is being called the signature injury of the Iraq war. The blast from improvised explosive devices can jar the brain, causing bruising or permanent damage. Concussions can have huge health effects including slowed thinking, headaches, memory loss, sleep disturbance, attention and concentration deficits, and irritability.

    Not really, no.

Are you seriously comparing someone with 2 terms of Senate experience to someone who fought and suffered in Vietnam, who now has almost 30 years of Senate experience? McCain of all people would know what our soldiers in Iraq are facing. I think that qualifies him much more than Obama.

And by the way, I said dirty conservative to separate them from conservatives who do not participate in shitty smear campaigns and out right lies to win an election because that's the only thing they can do to ensure victory.

The fact that someone was a POW does not qualify them for Presidency. If McCain understands the troops, where was he when the vote came up for the Webb GI bill back in May? McCain was a no show. Instead he stood by President Bush by opposing the bill. 30 years of service means nothing when your on the wrong side of the debate the majority of the time.

I don't know the facts behind all of this, but I can tell you my GI Bill just went up. Maybe they shot down the "Webb Gi Bill" in favor of a better bill?

Don't most Hard line Rep. dislike McCain for his effort to reach out across party lines? I still say 30 years is more then enough reguardless of what party you were for. And being a POW doesn't qualify him for president, it adds too it. The guy understands better than any one else what it means to send troops in harms way. Most people don't understand what the job title of the president is. He doesn't have control of the economy, doesn't create laws, and doesn't have all this control that most people want to believe he or her has. The President is a scape goat for people to blame when shit isn't going well. Untill you truely get involved by voting for your local congress and senate, you can't bitch. They have a lot more control then people think, and its about time we held them accountable.

Besides that the clip is months old, all that video shows is that the campaign put an unprepared idiot on TV. If someone asked an acquaintance of yours, "what good things has "acoustic guy" done in his life?" and he couldn't answer, does that mean that you haven't done anything, or just that the guy they asked was a clueless schmuck?
