Hardly open minded or idealistic in my oppinion. In fact, very close minded and prejudiced. Not to mention bullshit.

    Here's something to think about

    the lyrics are;

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too

    and here's something you said:
Christianity, in and of itself, is not even a religion. ALL it requires is faith. No one is BORN a Christian... What makes a Christian a Christian is what they believe. Period. I am a Christian.

Where do you see John attacking faith?

First of all, you left out many of the lyrics here. Secondly, i DID say that Christianity is not a religion, and, you see the heat i took for it. Others, although they should, cannot seem to make the distinction. Not people on this board, and certainly not John fucking Lennon. Nice try. Look, i don't care if you or anyone else loves this song. As a matter of fact, its no surprise. i stated earlier, based on some elements of the song, i can appreciate it as well. i am entitled to point out that it is prejudicial, close minded bull shit however, and i don't understand how it could be the fucking theme song for hippies worlwide who claim to be so "open minded".

    Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

    You may say I'm
    a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I only references I see to religion are the words "religion", obviously, and "Heaven" and "Hell". Your interpretation is that John fucking Lennon was this close minded person that believed religion was the root of all evil and not just religion, personal faith too. But maybe he wasn't this evil person you make him out to be, maybe his song was against the people who turned your religion or faith into something it's not, who made it fit their agenda's, who used religion as a tool... the people who a true Christian wouldn't call Christians...

How do you know that John "fucking" Lennon could not make a distinction between faith and religion?

And of course you are entitled to your opinion, that this song is prejudicial close minded bull shit, but that's just your interpretation of the song. Try to look at it from another perspective, not from the "everyone is against god" perspective...

    Here's another quote:
I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong.

It is very strange how easily good and evil can be interchanged. Most "evil" ideas were very good natured. God forgive me, and please do not hurt me to badly. It even seems that communism was a fantastic idea where everyone would have the same amount and be taken care of (we know it does not work) but the idea is great. Hitler ran with a good idea, but we all know whre it ended. We don't always know what the new inventions and ideas can lead to.

I know it pretty good (that idea of communism - socialism) where everyone should be equal, everyone should be given the same chance and conditions/terms to live, and to live nice life with all the things neccessary to live that kind of life.
My country was a member of a former Yugoslavija, communism system was on, and everyone had a job then. The thing was that nobody had to worry about the job - they had it guaranteed by the "government".
All the people were happy even though they haven't had big money and big salaries, but it was nice.
And then the capitalism came and now we, the people, have to worry day by day, how to feed our children, how to pay for their education, how to fuel a car (I know that's all luxurious but....you can't live without these things now).
All in all it was a peaceful and nice kind of life, NOW it's life filled with worries! (war, job - money, security...etc.)

  • Am I the only person who can't stand that fucking song??? :o

    There... I said it

It's crap, crap, crap, crap, and it's not even my idea of paradise... the world is made up of opposites, and it's those opposites that make us appreciate what we have and what we don't have. If we all lived in this supposedly perfect world of Lennons we'd be bored shitless.

And the melody isn't even nice
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
Had I not found this love with you

I can stand it, but it's definitely not one of my favourites. I prefer Instant Karma.

Actually, it's the melody which kind of makes it a little less appealing to me. It sort of has a personal, emotion meaning to me though... nostalgia...

No need to get bent out of shape here. I'm not trying to slander one of your heroes or anything. There are bits in there, about possessions and greed that i honestly agree with. Its very clear to anyone who objectively listens to the lyrics (everyone here knows them, they need not be posted 75 times) of the song, that what he really says, in literal terms, is "think and believe exactly like i do, and the whole world will live in peace, the whole world will live as one... just like me". Its very clear. i was simply weighing in on a discussion someone else started. i apparently have touched a nerve, and for that, i appologize. i'll respectfully back out of this one.

John Lennon is not one of my heroes and you have not touched a nerve, but thanks for apologizing anyway.

Sorry, I should have put 'in my opinion'. So 'in my opinion', I think the melody is crap, really horrible. The only time it sounds even a little bit nice is when Eva Cassidy sings it. And that VIDEO??? :D Eurgh!!!!!!!! Yoko certainly has no part in MY imaginary perfect world

  • Besides, 'let it be' is a much more euphoric song:

'and when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me. Shine until tomorrow, let it be!'

Now THAT I can imagine :)
