Look at each case... individually. Put the 48 year old pervert who is preying on 13 year old girls on the Internet in jail... He is supposed to know better. Give the immature 23 year old with the slutty 16 year old girlfriend a break (or let her Dad)... deal with the dude.

I remember reading it a few years ago but the guy was at a bar and had to piss. Apparently there was a long line and he went outside. He pissed on the side of the building and a cop nabbed him. I think it said he got into a pretty heated argument with the cop so the cop arrested him and bam! Sex offender status.
I also remember when I was living in Jacksonville about Clovis Claxton. This guy was a convicted sex offender for exposing himself to an 11 year old in 1991. That was the only crime he was ever convicted of. In 2005 people posted fliers all around the neighborhood targeting him, listing him as a threat. He committed suicide. He had spinal meningitis as a child and also encephalitis which left him mentally and physically underdeveloped. He also required a wheelchair most of the time.

I really wouldn't know how to legislate it... write a law to the books... without applying some sort of numbers to it.
Like, I believe 15 goes into 25 a lot easier than 25 into 15. Meaning, gender should also come into play.
I think the truth is what the courts need to seek. Justice will follow suit, after the truth is revealed. The problem is getting a law that is properly written that would result in justice... in light of the truth.

I'm not a fan of the death penalty so killing them isn't an option for me. It's sick and disgusting when an adult molests a child, but I think some other posters have brought up situations regarding consensual sex that make what appears to be a black-and-white issue a little more gray. Does she cease being shy, and starry eyed the day she turns 16? The legal age is 16. If someone's just a few months under the legal age, is it such a big deal? Especially if the situation was consensual. To call someone a peadophile for having consensual sex with a girl who happens to be 15 1/2, or 15 and 364 days old seems a bit absurd to me.
I think there are 2 sets of pedophiles - one who were abused themselves as children and the other - may not have been abused but is sick.

I think people need to differentiate between a child molestor - I.e, someone who forces himself upon a child - and consensual sex. It appears to me that not everyone labelled 'sex offender' is a paedophile. Someone who has consensual sex with a 15 year old isn't a paedophile and does not qualify as a child molester, and certainly shouldn't be placed in the same bracket as a rapist or murderer.
