I can see this thread joining some others from tonight in thread heaven. Not that there is anything wrong with the topic, it'll just get heated.

anyway, anyone who says kill, just fuck off now. No one needs that right-wing, vigilante "I am so perfect because god made me that way, kill everyone with a mental problem" mentality.

We need to understand paedophiles better, remove them as a threat to society by imprisonment if they actively commit crimes, attempt to rehabilitate them and not demonise them. 9/10 of paedophiles were abused as a child.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
  • Bad wording.

    No killing though.

It's hard to forgive a person that preys on helpless victims. It may be relatively close minded of me but I don't believe that kind of behavior pattern can be rehabilitated. But I don't see killing pedophiles as a perfect scenario.

I don't think you could flick a switch in a paedophiles head and stop them having urges. I think you could stop them from acting on them though.

Without going into too much detail because it's nobody here's business, my parents became foster carers briefly a few years ago and we had two kids living with us for a few months. Eventually we had to have them removed because, even though my mother is a social worker, none of us were prepared for just how screwed up these kids were. It REALLY opened my eyes to the cycle of child abuse and the effect that it has on people. Let's just say that one of these kids, if he hasn't already (we haven't heard word for 3 years and have moved a couple of hundred miles away since), he will seriously hurt someone one day. I found him very, very disturbing but when you live with someone like that, you realise they are human. VERY human. As much as he made life living with him extremely difficult, the idea of killing people like that is just insane to me. Wouldn't help anyone.

I agree. Not that I would compare the two, but, when an alcoholic stops drinking they call them a recovering alcoholic, not a former. This could be applied to pedophiles. Alcoholics dont go into bars. Society does their best to keep pedophiles away from children. It's all about opportunity

that's been my solution for years after I saw a 20/20 show about it

however, what to do for punishment to the women pedophiles?

I think it was 20/20, but not 100% sure on that. The case studies they had were all males, as would be expected since more child molestors are males. The ones that underwent chemical castration basically lost all urges to commit violent and/or lewd acts at all, not just to children. I suppose it's a bit harsh to suppress a person's ability to have sex in a consensual manner, but when you've preyed on children like that I don't have much of a problem with it. The show then went on about the chemical reasons for the decline of violent behavior, which was basically because chemical castration is the suppression of testosterone.

For women, it's a bit more complicated than that. Just sewing up their 'hoo-haws' wouldn't suppress the urge to take advantage of children though? I don't know enough about the woman's body to answer this, but is there a chemical or drug that does suppress sexual urges in women? If so, that could be a possible punishment.

    And what would you suggest?

I just read this in the news recently too. Even if the crime was commited by someone with legitimate "mental illness", there is a fine line between personality and disease.

Castration is a good idea but it doesn't work well with women. High doses of sedatives could work but then who is going to make them take the meds? Also, then they become a huge burden on society as they wont be able to hold a job. Unless they are put into some sort of labor camp.

I would like to see them all let loose on a deserted island with no provisions. Let them molest each other until they die of starvation.

well, ok, but still it's a serious question that doesn't really have a good answer other than throw the woman in jail for a few years

Welp, we can't do that. Not to mention that they wouldn't molest each other.

People that commit those acts generally have a really high chance of committing again. I don't think jail is the answer....because once they get out the urge is still there.

I think Megans Law is a start...but more needs to be done. There is a talk radio dj here who reads off a list of molestors every Friday.

this subject hits close to home with me, for reasons you may be able to guess...
my opinion...like alot of you are in agreeance, chemical castration. Although in some respects its hard not to say capital punishment.
Women who commit assults? that is a tough one

nothing moronic about it. These people are the dregs of society. They deserve nothing.

    Case by case...
    ...
The 19 year old immature male with his 16 year old girlfriend... or 15 year old girlfriend... can be classified with the 42 year old man who rapes a 6 year old child. They do not equate. Both should be looked at... seperately... and not painted with a broad stroke.

I once read a story about a guy that was harassed every day because he was listed as a sexual offender and someone in his neighborhood found out. His crime? He took a piss in public. Cop arrested him for indecent exposure.

This is true. But where do you draw the line? What about the 23 year old who has a 16 year old girlfriend?

That seems extreme. Are you sure there wasn't more to this story? I mean if the guy was wizzing on a school playground then ya he is a freak.
