Hussein means handsome. If that's all that people have to rip on Obama with, he's in good shape.0

The people that will be influenced by the future "Hussein" commercials or the intentional Obama/Osama slip of the toungue that right wing commentators are sure to do, wouldn't have voted for him anyway. My whole life

The guy wouldn't be elected if he was white and named John F. Kennedy because his politics are liberal as hell. All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

Defense
With the nation facing unprecedented threats, our military needs to remain the world's best. We must adapt the Pentagon to face 21st century threats such as global terrorists and loose nuclear weapons in the former Soviet states. Senator Obama is working to ensure that the nation's defense capabilities are strong, agile, and prepared and that our troops are provided with the equipment they need.
Seniors
As we transition to an increasingly global economy, many Americans are at risk of being left behind through no fault of their own. Among those most affected by these changes are senior citizens, many of whom are on fixed incomes. We need to modernize our social safety net to help senior citizens meet these new challenges, but we also must preserve those elements, such as Social Security and Medicare, that have enabled us to fulfill our moral commitments to our parents and grandparents.
Crime
Senator Obama is a strong proponent of tougher measures to fight crime, in particular the growing problem of methamphetamines, which has ravaged many communities in Illinois. He has also advocated providing more resources to local law enforcement officers.
Environment
As a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Senator Obama has worked to ensure our nation's environmental laws and policies balance America's needs for a healthy, sustainable environment with economic growth.
Homeland Security
Senator Obama believes that greater attention needs to be paid to the nation’s homeland security. To that end, he has supported efforts to distribute more funds to cities like Chicago most at risk of a terrorist attack. He has also introduced legislation to strength chemical plant and drinking water security and to enhance disaster preparedness.
Immigration
Senator Obama shares the growing public concern about illegal immigration in the United States. The challenge facing President Bush and Congress is how to effectively stop the flow of illegal immigrants across our borders, better manage immigration flows going forward, and deal with illegal aliens who are already living and working in this country.
Education
Senator Obama is committed to providing every American with the opportunity to receive a quality education, from pre-kindergarten to college or vocational school to job retraining programs.
Health Care
Promoting affordable, accessible, and high-quality health care was a priority for Barack Obama in the Illinois State Senate and is a priority for him in the United States Senate. He believes firmly that health care should be a right for everyone, not a privilege for the few.
Veterans
As a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama is committed to helping the heroes who defend our nation today and the veterans who fought in years past.
Ethics and Lobbying Reform
Throughout his political career, Barack Obama has been a leader in fighting for open and honest government. During his first year as an Illinois State Senator, he helped lead the fight to pass Illinois' first ethics reform bill in 25 years. As a U.S. Senator, he has spearheaded the effort to clean up Washington in the wake of the Jack Abramoff scandal.0 -

What drives me nuts is when people ask what experience he has. What experience did W have when he was appointed to office? And don't say governor of Texas. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a governor too.;)0

Well, you may not want to hear it, but running the executive branch of a fairly large state in our union is actually pretty high up there on the resume of relevant experience. Exponentially more pertinant than spending some time as a state senator and a couple of years in DC as a US Senator. So while you may not like W or Arnie (and I'm not a W fan by any means), experience isn't something Obama will be able to run on, and many people consider experience critical criteria when deciding for whom to vote."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." Bush pretty much ran on not having tons of experience. "Now I'm not a Washington Insider..."
Then again, incase the Democrats have not figured it out, sitting senators do not win presidential elections.I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.0 -

True about Washington experience, but he definitely ran on his Texas record. And did anybody believe that he wasn't a Washington insider? He was surrounded by his dad's buddies, all of whom were life-long Washington insiders."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

....he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations. Upon graduating in 1983, Obama worked for one year at Business International Corporation before moving to Chicago and taking a job with a non-profit organization helping local churches organize job training programs for residents of poor neighborhoods.[10]
Obama then left Chicago for three years to study at Harvard Law School. He was elected president of the Harvard Law Review, obtaining his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude in 1991. On returning to Chicago, Obama supported a voter registration drive, then worked for the civil rights law firm Miner, Barnhill & Galland, and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1993 until his federal election.[11]
Now, this is just a short bit from the article that I copied and pasted. I'm sure a real resume would be a bit more detailed (heck, the rest of the wikipedia article is more detailed).
People often complain about how it's always the insiders and career politicians that make it into the White House. Now, while it's obvious that Obama is now persuing a career in politics, his relative status as n00b could work in his favor - and, considering how good Barack Obama is at selling Barack Obama without sounding like he's selling Barack Obama, I say it will likely work in his favor.
Plus, he's something brand new. It seems people are looking for that sort of thing now. And, 2008 is years away.0 -

pffft. harvard? everyone knows that place is run by the america hating leftist establishment. they probably just gave him the law degree because he's black and they're all filled with white liberal guilt. magna cum laude? harvard law degree? whatevs. they hand those out like candy.
personally, i don't vote for a guy for president unless he supports the executions of retarded people."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

President Bush has a degree from Harvard as well. I knew you lefties would recognize his intelligence one day.Milhouse VanHouten wrote:personally, i don't vote for a guy for president unless he supports the executions of retarded people.
But then there would be no more liberals and even I wouldn't want a less competitive political process.0 -

Obama is intelligent and charismatic. A left leaning candidate with his head in the game who is not at all ashamed of his spirituality. He is EXACTLY the candidate the democratic party needs. Pardon the expression, but this guy is tits! Although i'm registered non-partisan or independent, i'm strongly considering registering democrat just so i can vote in the primary. i'll be honest, i havn't actually voted since i was about 18 or 19 years old (i'm in my mid thirties now) and i WILL be voting for Obama if given the opprotunity."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0
