    None of the above.

Though I'd really be tempted to break my "never vote against someone" rule just to keep Hillary out of office. But since I live in a state that would never elect her I don't think that would be necessary.
  • Hmm... and i'll be voting by the time that might happen..

my brain and heart hurt just thinking about that desicion.

    bleh.

I'd probably vote for whoever would counter congress... if congress was Democrat ruled and showed no sign of flipping to the repubs. i'd vote giuliani.

  • I have voted democrat since 2000 but wouldnt rule out voting for Giuliani. Yeah repubs are the business party but not all are evil and really doubt either party will make any real/substantial changes.

It probably will come down to those two, nevertheless I would'nt vote for any of them, granted i'm Canadian and can't vote.

Americans seem to have a soft spot for giuliani because it was his ugly face they saw every day for a month after 9/11, americans probably don't care about his love of israel and support of the war, he'd probably get many democrat votes, then again the dems love those dirty clintons.

    It'll be a crazy race,

I like Hillary better, but surely if those two are running, I am sure I can find something better to do on election day than vote.

NC is becoming bluer everyday it seems, at least to me anyways. I seriously long to move to Asheville.

It does seem to be moving that way, but we're still very red when it comes to national elections.

  • Giuliani has ZERO chance of winning the GOP nomination, but I would vote for him over Clinton. But there are very few Democrat that I would vote for, at least for a federal office. Mary Landrieu is probably the only one....maybe Ben Nelson.
And you ask me what I want this year

    Really?

My area is polluted. 3 cities (high point, winston salem, and greensboro) are converging on us in Kernersville.. right in the middle.. they say in like 20 years it'll just be one giant metropolis.

The beaches used to be incredible.. breathtaking.. and i was even alive to witness it! But in the past decade corporations, yuppies, and bad tourism (the bad kind not bad as in numbers) have turned it into a place to be on a crowded beach with no room and to buy trendy beachwear. There are still amazing places there but ya really gotta look for them sometimes.

The mountains are still beautiful as always :D

I mostly go to the mountains, also Greensboro and Chapel Hill. The place looks grand compared to the lesser Carolina. :D

Idiot George Bush carried this state by 13 points in 04. Hillary Clinton would lose by 20 points here even if she running was against a chimp.

Asheville is wonderful. They'd love to have you!

There were many irregularities, as I recall. Who really knows these days, no paper trail just trust in a very flawed system.

I know, they told me...well some did :p I've heard that many there are worried about their city's ever growing popularity and what it will mean to it's unique sense of community and distain of over commercialism. On Real Time with Bill Maher last week, the guy from Night Court was on...I forget his name....but anyways, he's moving to Asheville from NO.

Then those "irregularities" must have been skewing elections in this state for 30 years since the last time a Democrat won NC was 1976. Furthermore, the margin in 04 was almost exactly identical to the margin in 2000 and even 1996/1992 if you combine the two conservative candidates (Perot and Dole/Bush).

NC is a military/NASCAR state and will continue to be one for at least a decade. Furthermore, the current influx of Hispanic voters doesn't help the Democrats either.

It's definitely a concern there. Same with Chapel Hill where I live. North Carolina is a very popular destination for people throughout the US right now -- the population is growing by nearly 20% per year.

Don't let those concerns stop you. Asheville, like any community, naturally changes over time. It's just a matter of being respectful of the history and doing your best to be part of the community before expecting to affect it. I think you'd fit in well with the dominant culture there and you'd meet a ton of like-minded interesting people who would welcome you with open arms.

The past is really irrevelvent because I'm talking about a gradual change in the opposite direction. In the face of GW and the shape of things nowadays, there might be some change instore for NC voting patterns. I think the sub culture is really thriving in the areas I've visited.

Well, it would be a nice change from the rural SC atmosphere I've lived in for my whole life. But I worry about so many people fleeing to other areas of the map instead of working to better/change the area they are from.

The "areas you've visited" are notoriously liberal and have been for some time. Asheville and Chapel Hill/Carrboro are the liberal capitals of NC. You're getting a very poor representation of this state's population by sticking to that area.

Very valid point. But I guess it depends on how you look at it. The people who formed your town did out of a desire to make some kind of fresh start and to live the lives they wanted to. To do the same yourself, sometimes you have to wander a bit. Nothing inherently wrong with that, even if you're leaving something in need of change behind.

Yes, I know. But NC was considered a swing state and I'm hoping the leftiness is spreading. Everything evolves.

I'm just torn between taking the easy route and being embraced by what makes me comfortable or staying here and toughing it out for those who may need help from my kind. How can they get any organized effort if people keep ditching on them?

NC was never in doubt. It's not a swing state just because VFC came here.

Picking up and moving to a new place is not the "easy route", IMO. It's just a different route with its own unique challenges and benefits. Regardless, you should do what's best for you, just like the other citizens of your current town should do what's best for them. If what's best for both of you is organizing and affecting change, then get to it! If not, it might be time for you both to seek out your seperate paths.

Ok, How many of you Hillary haters live in NY state? She's a senator here, and I'd bet that most of you don't know a damn thing that she has/hasn't done in the last four years. So you can hate her all you want, but you really don't really count if you're not weighing the two candidates based on their causes, accomplishments, and stances. How about listening what each favor, and come to a reasonable opinion.
How many here would vote for Guiliani if he was for the war in Iraq??? I think that's a question that's going to sway most votes in '08, instead of "I don't like that woman"...

Oh, and because her incumbant in the Senate race proved he was a "Hillary Hater", it pretty much got him outvoted. It seemed to be his only motive for wanting to win.

It was talked about as a possible swing state by more than the VFC planners and participants. But if it's not on the official wiki list then, I concede you got me. :)
