I just went to pick up Ice Cream for my family and there was a gentleman selling Obama T-shirts. He did not offer me if I wanted to purchase one, but he did offer every other black person walking by one to purchase. Now I would not have bought one but my state went for Obama how does he know I did not vote for him or supported him.

  • what kind of bugged me was that right after he won, the tv showed smiling black faces around the country and barely a white face to be seen. the whole time i was thinking "most people who voted for him werent black!"

stupid media. to me the story was that a guy won that was inclusive and got different people to vote for him, but to them it was just the fact that he was the first black president.

Did you watch any footage from the Grant Park rally? Cause that was a diverse crowd if I ever saw one.

Maybe he was watching you checking him out while he was asking all the people if they wanted t shirts and you creeped him out.

You've been one of the most outspoken people on here against obama. Why the hell would you even care. If i saw someone handing out Palin or McCain t Shirts i wouldn't care enough to even look twice. Certainly would not make it my business to study who they were handing them out to. I just don't care.

I was not checking him out and I was not the only caucasian that he ignored. And the fact the he did not ask any other white people is a little suspect.

Eh, not really a big deal. It was obviously a huge night for black people all across the country (arguably more so as a whole than for white people), so I see no reason why showing a lot of black people celebrating is a bad thing.

Why didn't you just ask if you could buy one? If he said "no," then I would think you could be a little offended.

Who knows how that guy's day went. Maybe he just got yelled at by another guy wearing a "Brodeur Tshirt."

Maybe he could read your body language and see that you were not for Obama. Did you smile at him and look interested in the shirts, or did you scowl and look frustrated that McCain lost and that you weren't offered a shirt?

  • this post is about is irrelevant as any i can imagine. is this supposed to be some criticism of obama, or african americans as a whole? because this individual decided that he wouldn't try to sell you a t-shirt? you're right, it's probably a huge conspiracy to make you, as a white person, feel insignificant. damn racists

This has nothing to do with Obama at all. I did not vote for him but I do not wish him to fail. My problem is if I did something similar I would be called a racicist but since a black guy did this, it is called pride.

  • who called it pride? to me it's called a business strategy. if he's categorically ignoring every white person, then yes, it's racist, but the general mood of your post did not convey the message you wanted to

I don't call it "racist" or "pride." I call it a misunderstanding, but you already agreed with me about that, so why am I restating...? Ah, the big mysteries of life....

Here is the story. There were two guys selling Obama shirts out of thier van in a strip mall parking lot. I parked about 4-5 cars away. I walked by and glanced towards them noticing that he was selling Obama shirts. He then handed some flier to some people ignoring a different white couple too while handing out fliers to black couples. I kept on walking. Purchased my niece her birthday present then ice cream. Walked again past them to get to my car. We all caught a glance of each other. I continued on. I just thought it was a little crazy that he did not offer me to buy a shirt.

Eh, I definitely don't see why you are offended. I think you are reading way to much into this if it happened just as you described it here.

He might've had a fear of rejection. Perhaps he saw blacks as being more likely to purchase a t-shirt, and avoided making offers to other ethnicities to preserve what is left of his fragile sense of self-esteem.

Also, every salesman knows that when a customer is interested in a product, the customer's pupils will dilate. Maybe your pupils weren't dilated. If you have light-colored eyes, then it would be easy to see your pupils from a distance.

I totally disagree.. the coverage I saw did show a college rally reacting.. but also cut to reactions of every color of face from all over the country.

Uneducated people, white and black are going to make this election look bad...put in a negative light. Just remember everybody doesn’t feel/act like they do.

Easy solution - start a civil, non-confrontational dialogue with the guy....ask him why instead of bitching about it here...it might have done you both some good to talk about it.

Hmm, I take it as a kind every time a sales person doesn't pressure me into buying something I don't ask for myself.
