Unfortunately, I also discovered that this recall slightly affected the provider of the food I give to my dogs. I guess it's time to suck up the extra cost and start switching him over to organic dog food.

The only Purina product affected was the Mighty Dog pouch food, so if you're feeding them standard Purina dry food or Pro Plan dry food, don't worry too much. That said, I wrote a very testy letter to them yesterday informing them that I had no confidence left in any of their products and that I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Be careful with the "organic" products. They often misrepresent themselves in a lot of ways, and so-called "designer" foods can be even worse for the dogs than the regular stuff. Check with your vet before switching them over.

I typically boil the meat I give to the dogs now. Stinks less, is healthier, and the dogs really aren't very picky about it. I wouldn't eat it if you paid me, but they don't seem to mind

Don't be surprised when large companies out-source to save money. Seems to be a common practice today to compete.

Hehe...I'm certainly not surprised. Purina has every right to out-source to save money, just like I have every right to "out-source" my business elsewhere.

My dog is not exactly what you'd call a finicky eater, hahaha. He'll pretty much eat anything that doesn't eat him first.

I don't give him any pouch food, so I doubt I have anything to worry about, but now I don't particularly feel like giving money to a company that does business this way, especially since I already try to avoid any product that comes from China (although I think that's impossible to do entirely). I'm going to talk to the vet about organic, domestically made products.

You might try checking out foods made by Natura. I've heard great things about their foods, specifically the Innova line. I think they're both organic and domestically produced. It isn't cheap though.

I wanted to switch my dogs to this stuff a couple of years ago, but there was nowhere around here that sold it. I'm going to check back into this now though.

Hehe...I haven't even had a haircut in about 6 months. I'm going to have to do something about that.

I was just about to say, there was no hair to the shoulders in the pics I saw! I was sort of stunned, though, by how much you look exactly as I'd pictured you.

Does this make me a sleazeball too?

I have been a loyal Purina customer for many years now and have fed my dogs your Pro Plan foods since they were puppies. I had always been pleased with your products and felt confident that I was feeding my dogs quality meals.

I was saddened to discover that Purina was affected by the recent recall of Menu Foods' products. It was very disheartening to discover that the provider of my dogs’ dry food was involved in selling products that presented a serious health risk to millions of pets. Despite the fact that the products I purchase from you were unaffected by this recall, I can no longer in good conscience buy food products from you.

I am in the process of selecting a new diet for my dogs and will not entertain any Purina products in my search. However, I certainly hope you will take steps to regain the confidence of consumers such as myself so that I might one day consider you again as a food provider. In order to regain my trust, I’d recommend the following actions:

1. Sever all ties with Menu Foods.
2. Launch a new line of foods that are certified as domestically sourced using only high-grade meats and vegetables without any glutens.
3. Establish and publish an extensive review process for ensuring that all foods you sell are safe.
4. Publish more detailed information about the contents and sources of all your products.
5. Resist government regulation of pet food production by demonstrating that you are able to regulate yourself as a responsible organization committed to the best interests of your own business by ensuring the health and safety of your clients’ pets.

I hope to one day return to Purina products. If your organization takes the steps detailed above, I will gladly purchase your products again.

I even prefaced sending hippiemom the pics (along with surferdudes! ) by telling her that you told me that! I held onto those pics for an entire year without showing anyone until I got your permission!

As for "objectifying you", while you were publicly calling us sleazeballs unbeknownst to me, I was sending you a pm where I said about 4 super nice things about you, as a person and that happen to have no relationship to your appearance! So there!
